In the Name of God - Chapter 17.1
Just as I was about to deflect the greatsword, he pulled me into his embrace, instantly removing me from the attack range.
Crash!
The force of the attack drove the greatsword into the ground, sending shards of rock flying in all directions.
Lee Sunho, holding me lightly, jumped back to create distance and asked with an oddly dissatisfied tone.
“Why do you try close combat when you’re carrying a gun? Is it a habit?”
Instead of answering, I removed his arm from around me.
Even from what I just saw, it was clear that Lee Sunho was much more perceptive and agile than I had thought.
That did not mean I would let him face that bizarre monster alone.
“I clearly told you to stay back.”
But the obedient Lee Sunho was nowhere in sight. Now he stepped forward, unsheathing his sword. His sword exuded an exceptional aura, and he held it with a smooth, fluid posture.
Grrr-!
The Lizardman Warrior raised itself using its greatsword as a staff. Its broken leg slowly returned to its original shape, becoming completely whole as if nothing had happened.
‘Insane regeneration.’
Even the vital points hit by bullets had healed as if nothing had happened. I did not know why the head that had been severed before we arrived remained, but I understood that in its current state, it could regenerate perfectly from almost anything.
Amid the frustrating situation, Lee Sunho appeared calm even as he watched the monster’s regeneration in front of him.
“I’ll handle it. Use this time to figure out a way to stop it.”
“Lee Sunho.”
“I’ve watched enough for a lifetime, so let me do this much.”
He smiled confidently at me over his shoulder.
“We’re partners.”
He seemed not to wait for my answer.
Lee Sunho sprang into action.
The Lizardman Warrior, fully restored, charged forward, raising its greatsword.
Lee Sunho’s longsword and the Lizardman Warrior’s greatsword clashed head-on.
Clang!
The resounding metal strike echoed through the cave, sending a sharp vibration across the walls.
It was clear that with attacks of that weight, my weak body would not have been able to deflect them completely.
Lee Sunho did not remain in one place.
As the greatsword swung horizontally, he lightly touched the ground with his toes and slid his body to the side, grazing the Warrior’s flank with his blade. Even a slight cut sent shards of scales flying.
The Lizardman Warrior swung its greatsword furiously as if it could not feel pain, but Lee Sunho’s agile movements easily evaded the attacks.
He swung with one hand while using the other to push off the wall, bouncing away as the greatsword sliced beneath him.
‘Impressive.’
It was not just that he had held a sword for a long time. His movements clearly reflected countless real battles in various spaces, situations, and against many enemies.
‘And this person is ranked 9.’
I had thought this all along, but the ability evaluation committee that took over after the holy war needed a complete overhaul. Attaching a rank 9 to a talent like this was absurd.
I chuckled, but I could not remain idle. The places Lee Sunho had cut regenerated instantly.
‘If even vital points don’t work, where should I aim?’
There had to be a way.
As I was focusing Hawk Eye on the Lizardman Warrior, I noticed something.
‘What’s that?’
A fragment rolled on the ground.
It was a scale that had fallen off the Lizardman Warrior while it fought Lee Sunho. Unlike the corrupted black scales, this one was green.
Lee Sunho’s sword slashed the Warrior’s arm, knocking off a few more scales. The black scales turned green as they fell.
‘Wait. It’s not the color changing.’
Observing closely, I saw that dense black energy had been swirling tightly around the surface of the Lizardman Warrior’s body. It appeared almost like a change in skin color but was actually the shadowy corruption wrapping its body.
