Oh Cheol-hwan knew instinctively that he must never meet the eyes of the man in front of him, yet he forced his eyes wide open.

Through the gaps between Lee Sunho’s fingers, their gazes collided.

“You… could it be… the Black Cas—!”

Oh Cheol-hwan’s words could not continue.

Crash.

With a sound like thin glass shattering, Oh Cheol-hwan’s head burst apart. Blood and brain matter sprayed in all directions, staining the walls, the floor, and the front of Lee Sunho’s shirt red.

Where the head had been was only an empty neck, and beneath it blood poured down like a torrential rain.

The stench of blood instantly filled the room.

Yet Lee Sunho’s expression did not waver in the slightest.

If anything, it was coldly calm.

In Lee Sunho’s hand, after withdrawing the black energy, there was a single black sphere.

About the size of an adult fist, it looked like a murky glass marble, and inside it black energy was swirling fiercely.

It was the mass of ability freshly extracted from Oh Cheol-hwan, the Awakened’s “core.”

Lee Sunho clenched the core tightly in one hand.

The surface of the black sphere softened like melted chocolate, collapsing and flowing down between his fingers. It traveled along his hand, seeped into his skin, and mixed into his blood vessels. The veins rising along his arm turned black for an instant, then twitched as if shuddering and returned to their original color.

After checking the hand that had absorbed the black sphere, Lee Sunho turned his body. At that moment, the shadows that had spread wide across the walls, as well as the black masses hiding discreetly in the corners, began to wriggle out one by one.

From behind the bookshelf, from the corners of the ceiling, from beneath the chair, shadows that were hard for human eyes to catch swelled up as if gaining bodies.

Their destination was the headless corpse whose life had already ended.

The rising black masses each opened their maws wide and began to devour the corpse greedily.

There was no sound of bones breaking or flesh being torn.

Rather, as if swallowed whole without being chewed, parts of the corpse were quickly absorbed and vanished into the black masses.

The shadows’ meal ended in an instant.

Having devoured everything without leaving a single drop of blood behind, the shadows slid back together and merged with Lee Sunho’s shadow.

Before he knew it, in the room now surrounded by pure white walls, only a single chair and Lee Sunho remained.

Passing through the white room and stepping out of the study, Lee Sunho casually shrugged off his bloodstained shirt. A long-haired woman stepped out silently from his shadow and politely picked up the shirt.

Lee Sunho passed through the kitchen and headed for the bedroom. The abundant dishes that had filled the space with the smell of food just moments ago had vanished without a trace.

Reaching the bedroom, Lee Sunho lay down on the bed at once. Normally, the bed would be neatly made in the blink of an eye, but today, no one had touched it.

Faintly, Seong Do-yoon’s scent still lingered.

Lee Sunho curled onto his side, drew his long legs together neatly, and slightly hunched his shoulders. The fetal position he took made it hard to believe that this was the same person who had just crushed another man’s head without hesitation.

Lee Sunho carefully let an old, longing-filled title slip from his lips.

“…Master.”

The lingering scent of Seong Do-yoon remaining in this place seemed to tremble faintly, as if quietly answering that call.

After that, they participated in F-rank dungeon raid quests with three-day intervals. Of course, Lee Sunho was with him.

The dungeon raid quests ended without incident. Perhaps the previous raid teams had been unusual, because the people they met in these two quests were utterly ordinary. One or two showed early signs of arrogance, but not to an annoying degree.

Lee Sunho did not display the same level of power he had shown when fighting the Black Lizardman Warrior. As if there were no need, he moved lazily, yet he found the monsters’ vital points better than anyone, so the situations were quickly resolved without any fierce battles.

Thanks to that, today, with only one day left before the promotion exam.

<Remaining lifespan: 34 days 17:25:17>

At last, more than a month of lifespan had been secured.

“But then why….”

Gripping the sink, I gasped for breath.

When I lifted my head, a pale young man with an extremely strained expression stared back at me.
