In the Name of God - Chapter 21.2
Lee Sunho calmly looked over the books that filled the shelves, then withdrew his gaze. He stood in front of a smooth wall where no bookshelves were placed.
His long fingers with prominent joints lightly pressed a certain point on the wall. It was such a minute difference in level that no one would notice it without looking closely.
Click.
With the sound of something interlocking, part of the wall was pushed in slightly. Then, slowly, the panel split to the left and right, revealing a hidden door.
A cold, thick iron door.
The handle extended long downward, facing this side.
Lee Sunho casually grasped the handle and pushed.
The iron door opened heavily, but at a speed that was not unpleasant. The light seeping inside sharply outlined the contours of his face once more.
“Ugh….”
As light entered beyond the pitch-black iron door where nothing could be seen, someone inside let out a small groan.
In the center of a room so completely black that it was impossible to tell where the walls were, there was a man bound to a chair, his four limbs restrained.
The man was a middle-aged individual with slightly receding hair. His expensive suit and luxury watch stood out.
It seemed he had not been bound for long. The ropes tying his wrists and ankles were still clean, without blood soaking in. The wounds scattered across his body had not yet discolored like old suction marks.
However, perhaps due to extreme tension, his shallow breathing came fast and uneven, and when the sudden light burst into the darkness, he could not properly open his eyes, only twitching his facial muscles.
Only after his eyes adjusted to the light did the man shout angrily.
“You, you bastard, who are you? Are you insane? Do you know who I am to pull this kind of stunt?!”
“……”
“You’re done for anyway. You’ll be caught soon, so just untie this right now!”
The man, who worked as an organ trafficking broker and illegal anesthesiologist while traveling between Korea and overseas, had just wrapped up a big job and returned home with a huge sum of money. Right after arriving, he had been drinking with new clients on a luxurious cruise, when at some point he was kidnapped without a trace.
Because of that, he firmly believed that even now, the place where he was bound was still somewhere inside the cruise ship.
By now, the cruise security personnel and the Awakened assigned as his guards would be running around frantically.
He thought it was only a matter of time before the young assailant in front of him was caught.
But there was no sign of agitation in Lee Sunho.
With the most indifferent expression in the world, he approached the trembling man.
“A Grade 4 pain-control Awakened, Oh Cheol-hwan.”
As Lee Sunho stopped right in front of him, a deep shadow suddenly fell over his face.
It was not a shadow cast from somewhere else.
As if he had been wearing a mask delicately carved from black shadow, and as if he were only now removing that mask, Lee Sunho’s true face was revealed.
The gentle, easygoing impression he originally had disappeared, and his eyes and mouth hardened into something ruthlessly sharp. His overall bone structure, from forehead to nose bridge to jawline, seemed to stand out more clearly.
Most of all, what changed the most was his eyes.
They were clearly the same black eyes as before, yet a demonic gaze that forced one to lower their eyes just by meeting them was fixed on Oh Cheol-hwan.
“Ghk…!”
The moment he met Lee Sunho’s eyes.
Oh Cheol-hwan instinctively bowed his head deeply, trembling like an aspen.
If I lift my head, I die.
If I look into those eyes, I die.
‘I am going to die today.’
An overwhelming presence surged in, crushing even his will to survive and forcing him to accept death as he let go of everything. A primal fear, difficult to even name, crawled up Oh Cheol-hwan’s back and wrapped around the nape of his neck.
In that instant, Oh Cheol-hwan realized that this was not the first time he had felt this presence.
That realization soon turned into shock.
Just as he was about to lift his head, Lee Sunho’s hand came down, covering his head.
“I’ll make good use of your ability.”
“Wh, what…?”
Before he could finish asking, he felt something flowing down from within Lee Sunho’s hand.
It was not a liquid. The same horrific shadow as the pitch-black something enveloping this room was trying to wrap around his head.
“Th, this is…!”
He had seen it before.
Twenty-seven years ago, on the front lines of that desperate battlefield.
Purdoso
Technically Lee Sunho must be around his late 40s? Hmm he fell in love with his ‘God’?? idek…
