The moment our hands met, I became tense without realizing it due to the firm strength transmitted from her grip. Her hand was much larger than mine.
After finishing the handshake and taking a seat, Han Seorin moved quietly beside us.
Neat refreshments were set out on a tea tray, and warm tea was poured into the cups.
Hot steam rose from the cup, and the subtle herbal scent naturally eased my tension.
Once she finished setting everything on the table, Han Seorin bowed once more in greeting and left quietly. Until then, we had said nothing to each other besides the initial greeting.
As the door closed, Woo Hyeran and I were the only two left in the representative’s office.
Woo Hyeran was still staring at me intently with a lingering smile.
Even though it was an ordinary smile, it felt somewhat intimidating, perhaps due to the bone structure of her face.
“I knew that grizzly bear had a younger brother, but I didn’t expect you to look so different from him.”
Was Seong Do-wan’s nickname the grizzly bear?
‘Come to think of it, when Seong Do-yoon was young, he used to call Seong Do-wan a big teddy bear all the time.’
A scene from my memory surfaced dimly.
Even when a young Seong Do-yoon pointed at Seong Do-wan and rudely called him a big teddy bear, he would smile kindly and let it slide instead of getting angry. He would even play along by imitating a bear.
However, although his large build had continued since childhood, his once warm personality had completely changed. At some point, he became harsh and blunt, to the point where people would often get scared and run away just by him passing by.
I didn’t know which of the two was his true self, but the past Seong Do-yoon had been quite shocked by that change.
“I’m not particularly fond of talking about my brother.”
As I cut her off firmly while thinking of Seong Do-wan, Woo Hyeran’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“It seems the rumors about you two not being on good terms were true.”
Soon, she wore a friendly smile again with an unfazed face.
“Fine. Let’s talk business now.”
Woo Hyeran stood up, picked up a file from the desk, and placed it in front of me, opening it to the section regarding terms so that I wouldn’t have to look for them myself.
In the middle of a page filled with dizzying text.
The section written in numbers caught my eye immediately.
“I’ve arbitrarily revised the conditions a bit. Would you like to see if they are to your liking?”
Her way of speaking was cool and kind, but her eyes still overflowed with a sense of intimidation. I nodded to myself, thinking that a clan master of a major clan must indeed have this level of presence.
The conditions Woo Hyeran had revised were sufficiently upgraded.
A 2 year contract with a 1.5 billion won signing bonus and an annual salary of 1 billion won.
Furthermore, it included an automatic 20% annual salary increase.
To be honest, this was the kind of offer one would propose to a low level Rank 5, not a Rank 7.
The initial draft I received through Estelle Roland was quite good, but I didn’t expect her to raise it by this much.
‘Her scale is larger than I thought. Or maybe she thinks Lee Sunho and I will easily reach Rank 5 during the contract period.’
It was likely both.
“You’ve probably looked around quite a bit, but there won’t be any better conditions than this for a Rank 7 awakened person. That goes for Horizon as well.”
I agreed with her confident statement.
Even Horizon, one of the four major clans, would not be able to easily offer such excessive conditions due to internal regulations and seniority. No matter how much of a “parachute” younger brother I was to the Horizon vice clan leader.
“The conditions for Awakened Lee Sunho will be the same. Ah, please keep in mind that I upgraded them on the premise that you two come as a set.”
Woo Hyeran’s gaze scanned my face thoroughly.
When I didn’t show the reaction she expected, her eyes grew slightly sharp.
“Anything more than this would be a bit difficult.”
Her gaze seemed to ask how much greedier I was going to be.
I lowered my gaze for a moment, then closed the contract and looked at her directly.
“The conditions you adjusted are good enough. Honestly, they exceed my expectations.”
“For someone saying that, your reaction is quite dull…”
“You can keep my conditions exactly as they were proposed through Ms. Estelle Roland.”
Woo Hyeran’s eyes widened slightly at my sudden remark.
“You’re saying I can lower them? Really?”
“Yes. Instead, I’d like to add a different condition.”
“Tell me.”
I leaned back slightly against the backrest and closed my eyes once before opening them as if to catch my breath.
“I want two pieces of information.”
