In the Name of God - Chapter 51.2
“This is less like a monster and more like…”
With a grimace, I aimed my gun at the black humanoid figures sprinting toward me from the distance.
Bang!
As soon as I destroyed the central axis of the dark energy, the shadow-like silhouette collapsed instantly. What was revealed was the withered mummy of a pale-skinned child.
It appeared these child mummies were corpses that had been buried deep within this disaster district for a long time, only to be swallowed whole when the dungeon formed.
A dungeon is a plant that produces monsters.
Since such perfect raw materials had rolled right in, there was no reason for the dungeon to refuse them.
Even back when I played the game, whenever a dungeon appeared in a place with many human corpses, an undead-type dungeon would invariably take root using them.
“This feels disgusting.”
The fact that they were now monsters but were originally humans—children, at that—left a bitter taste in my mouth.
But that was all.
A corpse is a corpse.
To me, they were no different from simple monsters.
“Well, I’m fine with this, but as for Lee Sunho…”
Just in case, I looked ahead at Lee Sunho, who was fighting the monsters.
With one swift strike of Lee Sunho’s blade, the heads of the monsters were lopped off in succession. The dark energy quickly gathered the severed heads to reattach them, but Lee Sunho’s swordsmanship was relentless, hacking away limbs and slashing through necks once more.
Hmm… it seems there’s no need to worry.
While Lee Sunho handled the monsters at the front, I used Hawkeye to find the center of the dark energy surrounding them and embedded bullets into those spots.
The dark energy vanished instantly, and the pale mummies slumped down like dolls with their strings cut.
“That guy moves so well, even though his eyes aren’t as good as mine.”
It wasn’t that there was no light at all.
Standing in the rear with my revolver aimed, I had my phone resting on the back of my left hand to illuminate the path ahead.
However, even though it should have been difficult to deal with the corpses swarming from all directions with just that small light from behind, Lee Sunho’s movements were unfaltering.
“I’m glad the monsters aren’t that strong.”
I had expected this to some extent since I saw the ‘E’ rank mark next to the dungeon name on the system window. In fact, the monsters here weren’t significantly different in difficulty from the E-rank dungeon Lee Sunho and I had cleared before.
“The problem is the Boss monster.”
If the dungeon was marked as ‘E’ despite the monsters only being around E-rank, there was a high possibility that the Boss monster was E-rank or even E+ rank.
“I’ve never faced a Boss monster E-rank or higher before.”
Still, I wasn’t overly worried.
If I were alone, I might have struggled depending on the Boss monster’s type, but with Lee Sunho—who wielded powerful strikes—standing at the vanguard, there was nothing to fear.
“Man, he’s reliable.”
I was walking along, thinking once again that I had a great partner, when Lee Sunho suddenly stopped and stared at me.
“What?”
“…”
Instead of answering, Lee Sunho lowered his gaze. I followed his eyes, but I could only see my own feet.
“What is it?”
Lee Sunho approached me silently. Then, he dropped to one knee and reached for my left ankle.
“…!”
A sharp, throbbing pain flared up instantly.
It was the ankle I had slightly sprained when landing on the ground after falling into the dungeon. I had intentionally acted as if I wasn’t hurt, so there was no way it should have been obvious, yet Lee Sunho had noticed it like a ghost.
I looked down at my left ankle caught in his grip and shut my mouth. Displeased by my silence, the line of Lee Sunho’s lips tightened.
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“About what?”
“That you’re hurt.”
At Lee Sunho’s cold interrogation, I turned my head away with an indifferent expression.
“It doesn’t even hurt that much. Since you’re fighting in the front, I don’t have to run enough to ruin my ankle anyway.”
“So you were planning to keep hiding it?”
“…Why would I go around announcing it?”
It wasn’t that it didn’t hurt. Every time I walked, it felt as though someone was hitting my ankle with a hammer.
But it was bearable. To put it bluntly, it wasn’t broken—just a sprain—and in an isolated space like this, there was no benefit to showing pain. It would only make the other person worry.
“Hey, it’s nothing to get worked up over…”
“Seong Do-yoon.”
An inexplicable chill settled on Lee Sunho’s face. He sat down completely on the floor.
“I asked you, didn’t I? To come to me when you think you’re going to be in pain.”
While holding my ankle, Lee Sunho used his other hand to yank my shirt forward. My body tilted forward from the force, leaving me almost slumped against him.
As I tried to stand back up, I heard Lee Sunho’s frigid voice.
“Sit down.”
