It was shocking.

Even though humans are creatures prone to forgetfulness, I had never imagined that I would forget my beloved disciple to such an extent.

Whenever I tried to recall the face, it appeared as if it was heavily pixelated, with no features coming to mind. Whenever I tried to remember the voice, it came back garbled and distorted.

Even the conversations we had seemed to have vanished in parts. I could remember the days I spent with that child, but I also realized there were periods so tangled that they could not be recalled clearly.

Moreover… I had even forgotten the name I had personally given that child.

It was a complete mess.

It would not have been strange if I had panicked immediately from this confusion. A severe fracture had formed in the memory I considered most precious until the moment of death.

But strangely, I noticed myself gradually ‘adapting.’

Having now forgotten much about the child I had protected at the cost of my lifespan.

I was understanding this situation and adapting to it. Because of that damned skill.

Even without wanting to, I calmed down quickly and soon began enumerating what I still remembered about the child.

‘What I remember is basic knowledge about this world, parts of conversations with my disciple, various incidents from when I played the game, the uses of powers and their results… That seems about right.’

Looking broadly, there were even memories about the past few years of this world, but many large gaps made them almost useless as references.

I rubbed my pale face as if washing it with one hand. With the other, I gripped the revolver as if it were originally mine.

‘Yes, for now… I cannot just sit here doing nothing.’

‘You have no attachments at all?’

‘Really?’

I could now answer the question that had echoed through my mind when I was lifeless.

“No. Right now, my attachments overflow, they are spilling everywhere.”

You caused this.

I glared at the ceiling, grinding my teeth.

Bringing along a dead person was not enough, and now even messing with my memories?

At this point, I had no intention of quietly meeting a second death.

Not only would I restore the fragmented memories, I would find the lost disciple. And I would erase the word ‘destruction’ that had been connected to me, a body that could die at any moment.

‘Destruction? My disciple achieved a happy ending.’

I ground my teeth and lifted my cold, sharp gaze. I aimed the revolver at the monster that had already come very close.

‘It has been a while since I used a revolver.’

The 9th-rank awakened Seong Do‑yoon’s abilities were already fully adapted.

‘These eyes are remarkably sharp.’

Naturally.

Although he was 9th rank, the body’s awakened ability was ‘Hawk Eye.’

Seong Do‑yoon had only thought his eyesight improved slightly, because he did not fully understand his ability. Thanks to the ‘adaptation’ skill, I could utilize the original full potential of this ability at maximum efficiency.

Focusing my vision, everything became clear and piercingly sharp. Even the small movements of ants crawling in the corners of the cave were distinct.

With eyes like these, a standard revolver was sufficient to fight.

Whoosh-

The monster swung its wooden club at me, cutting through the air.

“Since you have so much thinking to do, hurry up and die.”

Bang-!

I leapt backward and pulled the trigger without hesitation. The bullet from the revolver struck precisely into a small crack in the monster’s club.

With a sharp cracking sound, the split club passed right in front of me.

Five bullets remained.

“That is enough.”

The barrel, glowing with heat, aimed relentlessly at the monster’s head.

Before being given a terminal prognosis, I had been a ‘combat mercenary’ who had fought on countless battlefields.

***

After leaving the dungeon, the first thing I did was look up at the sky.

A cloudy sky with almost no sunlight.

Cold weather that could easily bring snowfall.

‘They said it had been like this for ten years.’

The memories of Seong Do‑yoon… or for convenience, let’s call it ‘knowledge.’
