Idol of the Heavenly One - Chapter 41.2
“He was always snappy toward you, but apparently he stared at your sleeping face for a long time. A really long time.”
The video started again as soon as it ended. I couldn’t stop my finger. Watching it repeatedly, I began to doubt myself. Was that really how someone would look at a fellow member?
“……”
“Seriously, you two need to stop bickering. You’re like elementary school kids.”
Kwon Ji-hak’s voice came from beside me, but it sounded distant, muffled. My eyes wouldn’t leave the screen, and my mind went blank.
The PD probably uploaded the unreleased clip to stir up a “bromance issue.” But I couldn’t stop watching that short video loop over and over. Since when did he… Why did he look at me like that…
Then it happened.
“What.”
Speak of the devil. Baek Jae-heon, who had gone to the restroom, paused before sitting down in the seat ahead of me and gave a slight nod toward us. His gaze shifted between Kwon Ji-hak and me, silently asking what was going on.
“Jae-heon hyung, did you see the Shorts video?”
Ji-hak answered playfully.
“What Shorts?”
“The one where you stare at Myeong-hyeon hyung sleeping for a long time!”
“Ah.”
Jae-heon gave a slight nod, looking unconcerned. But soon, the gaze that had been on Ji-hak slowly shifted toward me. Instinctively, I became wary. Whenever he had that expression, he usually said something that got on my nerves.
“It’s just—”
His lips moved slightly, as if pausing to take a breath.
“……”
“I couldn’t take my eyes off you.”
His tone was calm, but that very calmness threw me off. He didn’t say it teasingly or seriously, just casually—and somehow that made it hit harder.
For a moment, it felt like something struck me in the chest. What kind of answer was that? I expected something like, “It was just for fun,” or “The PD told me to do it.” But he said he couldn’t take his eyes off me?
“…What are you saying?”
My forced reply came out shaky. My heart kept pounding. The tips of my ears burned, so I turned my head toward the window. If I didn’t, I felt like I wouldn’t be able to handle his gaze on the side of my face. I tried to act nonchalant, scratching my temple with a fingernail, but even my fingertips were trembling slightly.
‘What the hell is wrong with him…’
I kept my gaze fixed outside. After a moment, Jae-heon sat down casually.
“What? What? What? What?”
Meanwhile, Kwon Ji-hak’s eyes sparkled as he looked between the two of us. Then he suddenly took out his phone and started typing furiously. I thought he was sending a text, but when I glanced over, I saw the fan communication app, Universe, open on his screen.
“…He’s insane.”
I turned toward him in disbelief. Ji-hak was biting his lip, trying not to laugh.
“Hey, Kwon Ji-hak.”
“Hyung. You have to strike while the iron’s hot.”
He mimed rowing a boat, giggling to himself. I felt anger surge inside me. The fandom was already going wild, and here he was pouring gasoline on the fire. No, not rowing—a motorboat speeding straight into chaos.
Ding—
Just then, my phone buzzed. It was a notification from Universe, the kind that popped up when a member posted something and others replied.
[Jae-heon: It’s real]
[Jae-heon: lol]
The one who replied was none other than Baek Jae-heon.
“No way…”
My heart sank. Was he seriously that nonchalant? He really left a comment like that? Stunned, I lifted my head, trying to see him, but the seat blocked my view. That made it even worse. I wanted to see what kind of expression he had while pulling that stunt.
Meanwhile, Ji-hak snickered again and started typing another comment.
Ding—
[Ji-hak: lol everyone, Myeong-hyeon hyung’s mad lol]
“Stop it…!”
I reached out, trying to stop him, but just then, the in-flight announcement came on.
[The plane will take off shortly. Please turn off all electronic devices or switch them to airplane mode.]
“Don’t do that, seriously…”
I pulled my hand back and scolded Ji-hak, giving him a sharp look. But judging by how he was still giggling, I had a feeling he wasn’t done yet. What was I supposed to do with this kid? He was exhausting me completely.
