“…….”

Baek Jae-heon still hadn’t moved. Not a single sound of rustling came from his direction. What was certain was that I was at fault too… but that guy was also shaking me up.

I couldn’t endure another hour. In the end, I got up and hurried back to my room. My heart was pounding uncontrollably, and there was no way I could stand it any longer. I barely remembered how I even managed to walk those few steps.

I pressed the doorbell frantically. Once, twice, three times… maybe ten.

After a short while, the door creaked open and a disheveled zombie rubbed his eyes and stepped out.

“Ah, sorry. I told myself I’d open the door for you when you got back, but I fell asleep.”

Go Hee-min mumbled the excuse with half-closed, sleepy eyes.

“It’s fine.”

The words came out automatically. But it wasn’t fine. My head was still in chaos from what had just happened. It was a wonder I hadn’t poured cold water over my head yet.

“Where’d you sleep?”

“Next room.”

“With Ji-hak?”

“Yeah.”

After that short exchange, I entered the room and immediately threw myself onto the bed. I pulled the blanket over my head as if running away from something. But even in the silence, my heart still thumped wildly, and the trace of that touch still lingered on my skin.

From beside me came the sound of Go Hee-min flopping down onto the bed.

“Haam…”

He yawned, hugging his blanket. Even after sleeping, he still looked sleepy, ready to drift off again.

I forced myself to breathe evenly, trying to calm down.

‘Calm down. Just calm down.’

Does a fast-beating heart always mean affection? Does holding hands always mean something more? I tried to reason with myself over and over, but my mind remained full of Baek Jae-heon.

After a long while, I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I threw off the blanket, turned toward Go Hee-min, and called to him.

“Go Hee-min.”

“Mm?”

“Have you ever… liked someone before?”

The moment the words left my mouth, I didn’t even know why I was asking.

“Out of nowhere?”

Hee-min turned his head to look at me.

“……”

I couldn’t answer and looked away.

“Well… back in middle school, maybe?”

“…How was it?”

“How was what?”

“The feeling of liking someone.”

I wondered if it even made sense that someone who’d lived sixty-nine years was asking a kid who’d lived barely a quarter of that about love. But if Go Hee-min had ever liked someone, then in this case, he was my senior.

“Ah… hmm…”

Hee-min closed his eyes for a moment. He seemed to be searching for the right words, then spoke slowly, as if recalling something from long ago.

“It felt like I could see them even when I wasn’t looking.”

“The person you liked?”

“Yeah. I think I kept seeing them in my mind.”

Those words pierced right through my chest. That was exactly me right now. Even while looking at Hee-min, my mind was filled only with Baek Jae-heon.

Even when he wasn’t in front of me, I kept seeing him, over and over.

“…Did you ever hold hands or something?”

When I asked cautiously, Hee-min answered casually.

“Yeah, I did.”

“You did?”

“Yeah. And not just with some guy like your Baek Jae-heon.”

“Wha—huh—wait—”

I stammered in confusion, but Hee-min ignored me, lost in his memories. His eyes unfocused slightly as if slipping into a flashback.

“When we first held hands, it felt like a jolt ran down my back.”

“…A jolt?”

“Yeah. You wouldn’t know, but it was electric.”

At that, I sucked in a breath.

No, I did know. I’d just felt it earlier. Twice, in fact. The warmth that brushed against my palm, the trembling current that had run down my spine.

“…Damn.”

The word slipped out of me.

Hee-min let out a small laugh.

“Jealous?”

“…You’re insane.”

“Still, don’t go starting some dating rumor out of envy.”

His loud laughter filled the room.

Even then, I couldn’t laugh. Instead, a deep sigh escaped me.

I was completely doomed.

I’d tried to deny it dozens of times, but there was no running away now. There was no mistaking it anymore.

I was sure of it now—

I liked Baek Jae-heon.
