Idol of the Heavenly One - Chapter 99.1
I thought my body would completely break preparing for the comeback of our first full-length album. All of the members, including me, put our full effort into about two months of practice and recording. The hardest part was synchronizing the choreography with perfect precision, but since it looked amazing as a group dance, we practiced together for over six hours every day, even though it was exhausting.
There were concerns that the full album was coming out too soon, but the company was confident, and we were confident too. The songs were just too good, and the choreography turned out perfectly. Plus, after releasing four singles in one year, we were more confident than anyone about our stage performance. Of course, we still had a long way to go and things to improve.
The concept this time was about celebrating the last moments of our teenage years. A month after the full album comeback, all the members would become adults, so it was the perfect concept to do now. The music video was also fun. It depicted all the members as students and then showing them gradually growing into adults according to their ages.
Once we became adults, the story continued based on the dreams each member originally had. There were surprisingly diverse careers shown, which made it even more interesting. I was curious to see how much the fans would enjoy it. However, there were some strange scenes during filming.
“What kind of scene is it?”
“Secret.”
They said it was part of the music video, but the company didn’t tell me the details. They said it would be more fun if I didn’t know in advance. So I asked around to figure it out, but nobody gave me an answer. Why were they hiding it so thoroughly?
In the end, I just followed the company’s instructions. They said we would even take a plane, so I thought we were going overseas, but we arrived in Jeju Island. There, in an unexpectedly wide reed field, a single desk with partitions was set up. What was this? Before I could process the absurdity, the director told me to sit there and pretend to do office work like a company employee.
Well, I could handle that. I had been doing it for thirty years. I sat there and acted like I was really working, and somehow the desk felt familiar. The computer tower, keyboard, mouse, and stand—it all felt like something I knew. After filming that cut, they told me to film a shot leaving the partition at sunset, draping my jacket over my arm, so I followed through.
But as soon as I stepped out from the partition, there was a little boy right in front of me. What? Who is he? When did he get here? I looked at the staff, thinking he might have snuck into the set, but strangely, there was no “cut” sound. So I figured he must also be part of the filming. Since nobody told me what to do, I just approached him naturally and started talking.
“How old are you?”
“Nine.”
“You’ve grown up.”
I tapped his soft cheek with my finger as I smiled, and the boy stared at me. He looked really cute. But what kind of shoot required him to be there?
Cut. That’s a wrap.
And that was it. There was nothing more, and it was really over. I took the plane back to Seoul and, a few days later, continued with group filming with the other members.
“But what was that shoot?”
“What do you mean?”
“The one in the reed field.”
“Reed field? You filmed in a reed field?”
I asked the other members if they knew what that shoot was, but they all looked puzzled.
“No one filmed in the reed field?”
“Nope.”
“Didn’t film it.”
So I was the only one who filmed it? Did I have some separate story? Suddenly, Joo I-rip said, “Ah…!” and spoke up.
“Who filmed with a 14-year-old middle schooler?”
“Middle schooler?”
“Yeah. I also filmed alone, wearing a school uniform, holding the hand of a 14-year-old middle schooler.”
Maybe they were filming each member’s growth stages. Since Joo I-rip filmed with a middle schooler, I wondered: would Go Hee-min, Lee Soon-bok, Baek Jae-heon, and Kwon Ji-hak film with a baby, a kindergartener, a high schooler, or an adult?
“I didn’t film anything like that.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I only filmed something like a youth high-teen story.”
“What’s that?”
“Just something like a youth high-teen story.”
What was that? I made a bitter face, and Go Hee-min looked at me with a shameless expression as if to say, “That’s all there is, what can you do?”
