May Every Wound Be Fatal - Chapter 40.1
When news spread that the star palace was being prepared to welcome Priscilla, Reyna began a hunger strike.
She did not seem likely to give up easily.
On the seventh day, Elizer finally allowed her audience.
Reyna’s condition was far worse than he had heard. She could not even stand properly on her own. Elizer felt a chill run through him and commanded Lyman.
“Escort her directly to the queen’s chambers.”
Lyman supported Reyna.
Then Reyna shook off his hand and shouted.
“You know what people say about Your Highness and her. You know what they dare to say about her child. And yet, and yet, you really intend to keep her in the star palace?”
Her breath came quickly, and her face was unnaturally pale.
“You cannot do this to me.”
She looked as if she might collapse at any moment. Just as his mind went blank and he was about to shout for the scholar,
“…How much more do you intend to make me miserable?”
Reyna collapsed like a broken doll.
In Lyman’s arms, she looked so pale and thin that she seemed almost like a corpse.
Elizer froze on the spot. At that moment, he could do nothing at all.
Someone ran off to bring the scholar, and Lyman calmly bent down and adjusted Reyna in his arms.
Elizer approached as if in a daze and knelt on one knee before her. His fingers trembled slightly, hovering over her cheek without touching it.
Lyman whispered discreetly.
“She has only fainted briefly.”
“……”
Elizer’s lips parted, letting out a trembling breath. Only then did he realize he had forgotten even to breathe.
He withdrew his hand as if nothing had happened, but the unease that had started would not stop so easily.
Unfortunately, Priscilla noticed this.
While Reyna had been unconscious, Priscilla entered Elmaril. For some reason, she was curious about the place where Cassian and Elizer had first met, so she had Elizer lead her there.
When they reached the high wall through the thick undergrowth, Priscilla suddenly stared intently into Elizer’s eyes.
“You have not forgotten what Leonard did to us.”
Reflexively, Elizer frowned at the horrific sight before him.
“…How could I forget?”
Priscilla gave a faint smile, as if she had expected him to answer that way. Then she studied him with eyes tinged with slight pity and said,
“If Your Highness will not do it, then I have no choice but to act.”
Act? He did not ask.
Priscilla’s hatred was deep and cold. It seemed as if she could kill Reyna at any moment.
Therefore, Elizer no longer went to find Reyna.
***
Fortunately, Priscilla did not seem to act after that.
The problem was Reyna.
After fainting from her hunger strike, Reyna came to find Elizer as soon as she opened her eyes. It seemed she had heard that Priscilla had entered the star palace.
By chance, Priscilla had arrived in his study, and the two of them met far sooner than he had expected.
Elizer felt frustrated the moment Reyna, dragging her weak body, came to him. He did not know what Priscilla was thinking as she observed her, and he was frustrated at Reyna for still clinging to hope in her husband. His head burned with anger.
“What is the matter, Reyna?”
Naive and foolish Reyna. Elizer guessed she would ask him to drive Priscilla out of the star palace again.
However, the answer he could give was already determined.
“If you wish to discuss admitting guests to the star palace, stop.”
Elizer could not grant Reyna’s request.
Priscilla had entered Elmaril with Lucian to provoke Leonard. That was also why she deliberately exaggerated the scandal without explanation.
As expected, the duke began moving again to replace the king, and Elizer waited silently for the moment the duke would commit another act of rebellion. Therefore, whatever Reyna said, his answer remained…
“I will leave.”
However, what came from her mouth was a completely different statement.
“I will leave Elmaril, not Lady Priscilla. I am sure Your Highness wished this as well.”
Elizer did not fully understand her words and slightly furrowed his brow.
