May Every Wound Be Fatal - Chapter 53.2
Of course, Reyna could understand why they were being so bothersome.
“It is just that there is…. a very slight problem with my memory.”
This was because her memory, which they claimed would return naturally, remained empty, as if someone had taken a single bite out of that specific part of her mind.
Two months had already passed, yet Reyna remembered nothing. However, there were a few things she could discern through observation.
Reyna suddenly looked around the bedroom where she lay. The room she had used during her time as a lady of the Ducal House was larger and more magnificent than this. Back then, she had five maids, and the number of housemaids exceeded fifteen.
However, for a Queen’s palace, the room she occupied was far too modest, and the only attendants in sight were a mere five or six people, including Allin. Furthermore, they all moved strictly according to the King’s orders.
Reyna sensed the fact that the King had hidden her away in this place.
If so, what exactly was the King protecting her from?
Thales had offered advice to her while she was feeling anxious.
“Forcing yourself to rake through lost memories does not help the body recover.”
He told her to put her mind at ease and wait for the memories to surface naturally.
The attendants followed his words faithfully. Consequently, there was nothing Reyna could hear from them. Judging by the state of her hideously broken body, she could only barely guess that someone had tried to harm her.
Following that, a new anxiety muddled her head: the thought that the person who had reduced her to this state might perhaps be her own father, Duke Dazbel.
In a moment of peak frustration, Reyna reflexively parted her lips.
Questions about whether there was truly still no word from the Ducal House, or if the person who made her like this was her father, rose to the back of her throat.
“…….”
But in the end, it stopped there.
If it were true that she had been abandoned by her family, she felt that she truly would not be able to endure any longer.
“…By the way, it seems His Majesty is still busy. He does not show his face at all during the day.”
“Ah…. Yes, His Majesty is extremely busy.”
Thus, instead of asking about the Ducal House, Reyna sought the King out of habit.
“I do not know if it is my place to say this but…. Yes, His Majesty loves the Queen.”
For now, the King’s love was the only thing she could rely on.
“Please come find me tomorrow as well.”
Just as Reyna had requested, it had already been a month since the King began visiting her every night. However, during that time, Reyna had never had a proper conversation with him.
The King, who visited like a ghost in the middle of the night, always looked exhausted and remained expressionless. When she mustered the courage to ask if something was wrong, he simply shook his head silently.
After that, it was difficult to strike up more conversation. The most she could do was quietly steal glances at him as he sat on the floor, resting his face against the edge of the bed.
He literally just stayed by her side. There were many things she wanted to ask him and hear from him, but her time with him was different from what she had imagined.
Reyna could not tell what the King was thinking at all. Various worries were bound to arise.
“…Could it be that I am bothering him too much?”
“Pardon? Bothering him? Why would you think such a thing….”
“If he is only keeping me company out of obligation….”
“If he felt that way, he would have stopped coming long ago.”
Despite Allin’s answer, Reyna became increasingly confused about his heart. That is to say, she doubted whether he truly loved her. Besides, was a heart not something that could change at any time in the first place?
Nonetheless….
“…Reyna.”
The King had called out “Reyna” and burst into tears the moment he saw her. He looked so pitiful that she felt sorry for forgetting him.
Seeing that, Reyna felt he would not easily abandon her; she revisited that moment whenever she felt anxious. Then, recalling how he addressed her, she suddenly became curious.
“Come to think of it…. What did I used to call His Majesty?”
“Well….”
Allin pointlessly scanned the surroundings before continuing her answer.
“In front of His Majesty, you always…. maintained your etiquette.”
“…Is that all?”
“…As far as I know, you usually called him ‘Your Majesty’ at all times.”
Reyna felt a strange sense of disappointment at Allin’s response. It was likely because she had hoped they were on somewhat intimate terms. Thus, feeling an inner hope at the slight lack of confidence in Allin’s voice, she asked once more for good measure.
“Could it be that I did not call him by his name, Tiberian? Perhaps when we were left alone, or at times like that?”
