“…Pardon?”

However, Allin’s reaction was strange. She wore a face that looked as though she had seen a ghost, much like the expression she had when she first realized Reyna had lost her memory.

Reyna looked around at her surroundings, which had become terrifyingly quiet, with a sense of unease.

It was not just Allin. Even the King’s knights, who usually acted as though they saw and heard nothing, could not hide their agitation.

“…What is it this time?”

Just as Reyna began to frown, wondering what was happening now, Allin stammered, unable to hide her bewilderment.

“That, my Queen….”

Until that moment, Reyna simply thought the relationship between the husband and wife was much more strained than she had imagined. That was the worst case scenario imagined by Reyna, who possessed memories only up to the age of seventeen.

“The King…. is not Prince Tiberian.”

However, the words that followed were once again far beyond her imagination.

***

Elizer felt as though he were dreaming every day.

Reyna, who had become fragile to the extreme, instinctively sought a place to lean on and held onto him. Without even knowing who that man was, she waited only for him to come, and when she caught hold of him, she smiled as if she were happy.

“Please come find me tomorrow as well.”

Whenever Reyna approached him, Elizer’s heart surged so much that he could not breathe properly.

It was difficult to explain exactly what kind of emotion this was. It was a complex sensation that felt like a mixture of sadness and joy, regret and welcome. And what remained at the end of it was always the guilt that he was deceiving her.

Nevertheless, Elizer could not stop visiting Reyna when night fell.

The fact that he could still be by her side, that she was waiting for him, and that she smiled at him again felt so much like a dream that he foolishly continued, even while knowing he had entered a wrong path once more.

When he finally came to his senses, two months had already passed since Reyna lost her memory.

Reyna still remembered nothing. Once more than two months had passed, the scholar stated that her memories might never return.

In that moment, Elizer felt something akin to hope.

‘…If Reyna continues to remember nothing like this, what do I intend to do….’

Then, he felt that the expectation he had inadvertently held was too terrible. Consequently, he could not go to the room where Reyna lay that night.

Elizer lay on the long couch in his office and let meaningless time flow by. It seemed he had fallen into a light sleep without realizing it.

Frowning as if in pain, he suddenly opened his eyes.

His hair and clothes, sticking to him with cold sweat, were bothersome. He could dimly see the faint moonlight shining through the translucent curtains. His eyelids were heavy, but he could not close his eyes again.

If he closed his eyes, the scene of Reyna being swallowed by the black waves unfolded before him at all times.

He stared blankly at the ceiling of the office and steadied his ragged breathing before eventually standing up a long while later.

As Elizer left the room, his knights followed silently behind him. Since it had long been a frequent occurrence for the King to wander the palace like a ghost in the middle of the night, they showed no signs of agitation.

Elizer wandered the palace aimlessly.

The place where his steps suddenly stopped after wandering for a long time was the King’s garden, where only a Wills could enter.

A look of trouble crossed Sir Lyman’s   face when he could no longer escort the King, but he could not hold back his liege, who was slowly disappearing into the dark thickets.

Elizer walked the dark forest path as if possessed.

Although it was dark, everything remained the same, so it was not difficult to find the way. No, he felt as if he could reach that place even with his eyes closed.

Soon, his legs stopped at a certain spot.

Elizer carefully reached out and parted the dense bushes that were blocking his path. As the thick leaves that had been obscuring the moonlight disappeared, his vision suddenly opened up. In the empty space surrounded by large trees, the bright moonlight settled down just like back then.

“…….”

However, the woman wearing a white headwrap who would look back at him with widened eyes was not there.

The woman who used to crouch alone under the moonlight waiting for him was not there either.

Since it was all a thing of the long past, it was only natural, yet….
