A small garden surrounded by neatly planted shrubs and tall trees came into view. At its center stood a low stone fountain.

There was barely any water pooled in it, yet a faint sound, as if water were flowing, could be heard. She realized that the sound of dripping water she had heard all summer must have come from there.

Elizer set Reyna down on the wide, rounded edge of the stone fountain, then knelt on one knee in front of her, carefully adjusting the blanket wrapped around her shoulders. His touch was gentle.

“Your leg… it didn’t hurt?”

“No.”

Reyna answered absently, her attention completely captured by the scenery. Half-dazed, she gazed up at the sky, a smile of quiet wonder spreading across her lips.

Elizer watched her face in silence for a moment before sitting beside her and lifting his gaze.

The sky looked as though it might spill over with stars. Yet, with winter drawing near, the starlight was dimmer than when he had first met Reyna.

A faint sense of regret stirred within him. She was this delighted even now—how much happier would she have been if it were like that night?

Then a playful voice broke the silence.

“So this is the beautiful view I’ve been missing all this time?”

Elizer turned to her reflexively.

Reyna, clearly excited, looked up at him with smiling eyes. In the dim surroundings, her deep green eyes seemed almost dark, filled with countless white stars.

He couldn’t look away from them.

“Thank you,” she said.

Then, as if she could never tire of it, she turned her gaze back to the night sky in awe. Elizer remained still, staring at her profile.

Silence lingered between them for quite some time. It was a strange, overwhelming peace—one that felt so complete it almost didn’t belong to him, as though he could stop breathing and not mind at all. His clenched hand resting on his knee slowly tightened.

After gazing at the sky for a long while, Reyna closed her eyes briefly and took a deep breath of the cold air.

The tangled thoughts that had filled her mind earlier were gone. It felt as if only the two of them remained in the world—and rather than frightening, it was comforting.

Sensing his gaze, she slowly opened her eyes and turned toward him.

Their eyes met instantly, and for a fleeting moment, something flickered across the surface of his gaze. Reflected there were her pale face, the dark night, drifting clouds, and countless stars.

…Beautiful.

The thought came to Reyna without effort. His eyes, she felt, were especially beautiful. Without realizing it, she lifted her hand and gently traced around his eyes.

Elizer flinched. She could feel the tension in his jaw, the way his whole body stiffened. It was truly not difficult to read his feelings. Reyna let out a small, quiet laugh.

“Ha…”

Of course, she had seen countless men before who didn’t know what to do with themselves at a single glance or gesture from her. After all, Reyna Dazbell had been beautiful, noble, and young.

But the person she saw in the mirror now was completely different. Pale, fragile, and almost unhinged.

And yet, the man before her looked at her as if she were his entire world—as if they were the only two people left in existence.

“……”

Reyna still couldn’t remember Elizer. Whenever she was with him, her thoughts became muddled, and she couldn’t think clearly.

Her heart seemed to move on its own, separate from her mind. That lack of control frightened her at times.

But when she was this close to him, none of that fear seemed to matter. Instead, her mind filled with a strange impulse.

As if entranced, Reyna cupped his cheeks with both hands.

“Reyna…”

His eyes widened in surprise. Her fingers trembled slightly, but she didn’t stop.

She didn’t want to.

What is this feeling? What do I want?

Reyna reflected on her own heart.

If she had to choose between liking or disliking him, then… she liked him. The pace at which her feelings grew was faster than the return of her memories—something she couldn’t control.

And for a kiss, this much feeling would be enough.

Yes… a kiss should be alright, shouldn’t it?
