Something’s Not Right About This Transmigration - Chapter 10.1
“……Wow. You people are exhausting.”
Frey looked back and forth between the two men seated before him with an expression of utter weariness.
After arriving at the ducal mansion, Frey spent another full two days bedridden.
He had already been unwell and had not rested properly, so the strain had hit him all at once.
When he finally regained his senses, Frey had to face an utterly exhausting sight.
“You spent two days with Frey, yet you don’t even know that he’s sensitive to the cold? Why is his blanket so thin?”
Once Regulus learned Frey was at the ducal mansion, he barged in nearly every day.
“I might take anyone else at their word, but I find it difficult to believe you, Your Highness. You lied and told me Young Lord Rubellia was doing well at the Count’s mansion…….”
And Samuel, whom Frey had expected to drive Regulus away or ignore him, answered every remark with a retort of his own.
Only Frey, trapped between them, narrowed his eyes and did his best to ignore their conversation.
‘Regulus I can understand, but what in the world is wrong with Samuel?’
His arguments with Regulus were one thing, but What baffled Frey even more was the way Samuel treated him.
When Frey opened his eyes that morning, Samuel had suddenly called his name in a gentle voice and offered him a hand.
Then Samuel said he didn’t know what Frey liked to eat these days, ordered the kitchen to prepare all sorts of dishes, and laid out a feast of every delicacy imaginable.
‘Is it because I healed the former Duke?’
Samuel did seem to be caring for him, but he was not entirely friendly either.
“Oh, could it be……?”
There had been a story in a novel Frey once read.
The protagonist hated someone so deeply that he deliberately tried to become the most precious person in that individual’s life in order to hurt them. Once the other person had fallen so deeply in love that they would give the protagonist everything they possessed, the protagonist betrayed them and left a terrible wound.
Samuel appeared to bear considerable resentment toward ‘Frey’. Simply healing the former Duke did not seem enough to untangle that knot.
Had Samuel not spouted nonsense about refusing to end the engagement because it irritated him to see Frey and Regulus getting along?
“So it isn’t impossible.”
No, it was actually quite likely.
It was only speculation, but ‘Frey’ in the novel appeared to have liked Samuel a great deal.
That was probably why he silently remained in place and supported Samuel, whether Samuel stayed away from home or went off in search of another love.
Moreover…….
─I’m sorry, Your Grace……. I truly told him that he shouldn’t do this…….
When the main bottom, ‘Leo’, came to apologize to ‘Frey’, Frey had smiled kindly and replied as though it were nothing.
─Is that not simply the nature of the heart? You can give him what I cannot, Sir.
He had even blamed himself entirely for Samuel turning his attention to someone else.
‘And Samuel still spoke to him quite cruelly despite knowing that.’
He had called Frey troublesome for not immediately accepting his demand for a divorce, and Frey thought Samuel had also sneered that a man with no pride wouldn’t let go so easily.
Frey was recalling all the horrible things Samuel would do in the future.
Then Samuel strode over from his argument with Regulus, bent at the waist, and brought their eyes level.
“What possibility are you referring to?”
When Samuel’s face suddenly drew close, Frey’s eyes rounded.
It was undeniably handsome enough to take one’s breath away. Unfortunately, Frey as he was now felt nothing in particular.
“Nothing.”
Samuel had firmly declared that he would not break off the engagement, but he probably had not meant it. Or perhaps he would reverse himself once he met Leo.
But now that Frey had transmigrated into ‘Frey’s’ body and begun making different choices from the original story, it was hard to tell when or how Samuel would become involved with Leo.
‘In that case…….’
Frey turned to Regulus.
“Come to think of it, Your Highness, didn’t you say we were going somewhere today?”
