Something’s Not Right About This Transmigration - Chapter 10.2
“What?”
Regulus raised an eyebrow at the abrupt remark, then nodded vigorously only after Frey lifted his chin slightly, telling him to take the hint.
“Ah, yes. Right. I promised to buy you a wedding gift.”
“Then now…….”
Frey was reaching toward Regulus to suggest they leave when Samuel, who had stepped back a short distance, rushed forward, pulled Frey into his arms, and rolled across the floor.
At the same moment.
Crash!
The window shattered with a deafening sound. Something resembling a coarse, sturdy net flew through the fragments of glass and struck the place where Frey had been sitting moments before.
Hisssss.
The net grew white-hot, radiating enough heat to burn everything it touched, then vanished in an instant as though it had never been there.
“Your Grace!”
The guards who heard the commotion rushed over and quickly surrounded Frey and Samuel, preparing for another attack.
Meanwhile, Regulus chanted what sounded like an incomprehensible spell toward the people fleeing beyond the ducal estate’s fence.
“Those bastards again……. We have to pursue them.”
“You know them?”
“They’re after Frey. This is already the third time.”
“…….”
“I put tracking magic on them. Lend me some soldiers. I’ll go kill them.”
Samuel nodded at Regulus, who spoke while suppressing his rage. Regulus was about to leave the room immediately when he looked back at Frey, still held in Samuel’s arms.
“Frey.”
Regulus reached out and gently stroked Frey’s cheek. The reassuring touch told him he was safe, Frey finally released the breath he had been holding.
“It happened before. You’ll be Alright this time too, and we’ll catch them. You trust me, don’t you?”
“…….”
“Tell me you trust me. Hmm?”
Regulus’s silver eyes curved gently as he spoke.
Frey had not even had time to feel afraid of the sudden attack before the low, gentle voice became a lifeline. That alone seemed to calm his pounding heart little by little.
When Frey nodded without realizing it, Regulus lightly kissed the back of his hand.
“Then I’ll be back.”
“Your Highness……!”
“Yes?”
Frey, who had grabbed Regulus without thinking, moved his lips.
“Be caref…….”
“…….”
“Please be careful.”
Regulus’s eyes widened as though he had never expected to hear such words from Frey, then curved into a gentle smile.
When Regulus left the room, private soldiers from the ducal estate followed. As Frey watched them go, Samuel’s low voice reached his ear.
“It seems this has happened often.”
Samuel’s arm tightened. Only then did Frey realize he was still leaning halfway into the man’s embrace.
“Ah, well…….”
“Tell me what happened. If this is going to keep happening, we must prepare as well.”
Frey looked up at Samuel at the low, dry voice. His expression had become even colder and harder than before.
But Frey could not answer easily. After all…….
“I don’t remember very well. It would be faster to ask His Highness.”
He had no memory of any of those incidents.
“You don’t need to be so guarded even about this.”
“…….”
“Well, enough. We haven’t spoken in a long time, so I didn’t expect you to open up to me all at once. Besides, you have never once given me a clear answer.”
Samuel replied coldly and carried Frey out of the room. Startled when his view abruptly rose, Frey seized Samuel’s clothes.
“Y-you can put me down now……!”
“…….”
“Your Grace?”
Samuel refused to release Frey despite his protests. He held him tightly all the way down the long corridor and into an opulent room.
Once they reached the inner room of the mansion, Samuel seated Frey on the edge of the bed.
“You will use this room from now on.”
“……This room?”
Frey swallowed and looked around.
The room he had been in moments ago was also large and luxurious, but it could not compare to this one. It looked like a room used by someone extremely important in the mansion.
“It looks as though someone already uses it.”
“That’s right. It’s my room.”
“Then why would I……?”
“Because we’re spouses. I was taught that spouses share a room.”
