Something’s Not Right About This Transmigration - Chapter 12.1
At the same time, Samuel yanked Frey back from beneath the blanket and trapped in Samuel’s large embrace.
“W-water…….”
“…….”
“I’m a little thirsty. I was going to get some water…….”
Samuel opened his eyes slightly at Frey’s excuse and pulled the bell cord. As though she had been waiting, a maid brought in lukewarm water.
“If you need something, don’t go anywhere. Use this to summon someone.”
After speaking, Samuel rested his head on the pillow again and closed his eyes. Then, as though belatedly realizing his arm was around Frey’s waist, he awkwardly released him.
“If you’re uncomfortable, I could sleep in another room.”
Frey asked hopefully while sipping his water, but Samuel merely kept his eyes closed and pretended to sleep without answering.
In the end, Frey could only let out a disappointed sigh and lie down again.
‘I need to escape…….’
But after the events of the morning, he could not easily bring himself to leave the ducal estate.
‘Is leaving the estate now really the right choice?’
An attack had taken place the moment he changed residences.
If Samuel had not immediately sensed something strange, Frey might have been seriously injured.
At least one thing was now certain. Someone other than Samuel or Regulus might have been involved in ‘Frey’s’ death.
‘Why are they after me?’
Before the original story had even begun, there was only one reason anyone would target ‘Frey’. It was his ability to cure Rosifer.
If they were attempting to abduct him because they coveted that ability……. Then Samuel and Regulus, at least, seemed unlikely to be involved.
‘In that case…….’
Was this place safer than the outside for the moment?
He wasn’t going to die immediately. It seemed better to identify who was after ‘Frey’ and why, secure his safety, and only then leave.
In any case, ‘Frey’ died around one year after the marriage. Perhaps he could treat the time until then as a grace period and put his safety first for now.
‘By then, won’t Samuel’s feelings for Leo have deepened to some extent? Then he won’t care whether I run away or demand a divorce.’
For now, Frey would wait and see how things developed.
The moment he reached that conclusion, the air began to feel subtly heavier.
It felt as though someone were watching him.
Wondering if it was Samuel, Frey cracked one eye and glanced beside him, but the man was sleeping without the slightest movement.
‘Am I being too sensitive……?’
He had not even been badly injured, so he tried to dismiss it as nothing.
Yet when he realized that one mistake could have killed him, the fear he had suppressed came rushing over him at last.
As the gravity of the situation sank in again, Frey began to tremble.
‘I don’t want to die again.’
Frey remembered the moment he died after being struck by the vehicle.
His body had flown into the air and rolled across the asphalt. Every part of him began to tingle as his consciousness slowly faded.
The pain itself had lasted only a moment. What came afterward was the terrifying part.
It felt as though something formless had clung to his entire body and dragged him into a bottomless abyss.
As his red vision gradually turned pitch-black, the murmurs and screams of the people around him disappeared completely.
Then voices too anguished to sound human battered his ears.
Screams of pain begging to be saved. Howls of resentment from those who didn’t want to die. Some even cursed Yuseong for dying instantly beneath a vehicle and asked what gave him the right to die so easily.
Again and again, those voices carved themselves into his body and soul again and again.
Amid that suffering, Frey could only scream without sound.
There was nothing else he could do.
‘……No matter what happens, I will live.’
He never wanted to experience that pain again.
‘I have to find a way not to die.’
Even if it meant using everyone he met here.
The moment Frey clenched his fist with that determination, warmth touched the back of his hand.
Frey’s eyes flew open in surprise. A pair of starlike silver eyes hovered directly before him.
“Your Highness……?”
……Hadn’t he returned to the imperial palace?
When Frey tried to speak, Regulus placed an index finger against his lips, telling him to be quiet.
“I came to get you.”
