Something’s Not Right About This Transmigration - Chapter 14.1
Frey watched Leo hurry in and out of the room all day.
Watching someone move nonstop should have been distracting, yet watching such a cute person scurry around made Frey lose track of time.
‘More importantly, why is Leo on Regulus’s side?’
In the novel, Leo had unquestionably belonged to Samuel.
The story began around two years after Leo joined the knight order, when he carried out an order Samuel had issued to several people.
While cursing an assignment dangerous enough to get him killed, Leo happened to become directly entangled with Samuel. Samuel fell for Leo at first sight and began pursuing him. That was how the story opened.
‘Did he originally belong to Regulus before going over to Samuel?’
Then what caused the change?
Nothing Frey read before his death had mentioned it.
‘Could something have changed because I transmigrated? But I haven’t done anything that could cause it.’
Nothing he did after transmigrating could possibly have influenced Leo’s past. Frey had only met Leo today…….
‘Why is it different? Am I remembering it wrong?’
No, that couldn’t be. He had transmigrated while he was still reading the novel. How could he have forgotten?
‘Usually, when the story changes after someone transmigrates into a place like this, trouble follows…….’
Trouble for the transmigrator, that is.
Frey was anxiously biting his fingernail when Leo spoke.
“Here. These are the clothes you can wear for the time being.”
Leo had been searching the wardrobe and held out a shabby set of clothes.
Frey jumped at the sudden voice and looked at him.
“Noble people rarely visit this village, so the clothes you’re wearing now might stand out.”
“Ah.”
“I wanted to bring you new clothes……. But, um, I ran short of money after buying the blanket…….”
Frey’s eyes widened at the way Leo watched him cautiously.
“Is this your house, Sir?”
Leo bit his lower lip and nodded at Frey’s question. Considering how many times he emphasized that the house was shabby, he seemed embarrassed that Frey had discovered how poor he was.
“I see.”
Frey gave a brief reply and nodded slowly. As Leo’s expression grew darker, Frey laughed inwardly.
‘When Leo makes that face, he’s usually cursing his superior.’
Could he be cursing Regulus now too?
‘Well, Leo always hated revealing his background. He already dislikes having to shelter a stranger in his home, and now his origins have been exposed too. Of course he would hate it.’
A knight born a commoner.
Some envied Leo for his rise in status, but after entering the imperial palace, Leo was forced to confront endless contempt.
People asked how a mere commoner could join the imperial knight order, and some even insulted him by suggesting he had sold his body.
Now the noble Frey had even discovered his family’s poverty. Leo’s pride must have been terribly wounded.
Or perhaps he felt ashamed.
‘If it were someone else, I’d pretend not to notice…….’
But the thought of adorable Leo worrying inwardly weighed on Frey’s mind.
Leo was also someone who worried far more than necessary.
“Thank you.”
“……Pardon?”
“It must be uncomfortable to let a stranger into your home, even on your superior’s orders. Yet you even lent me clothes……. I truly appreciate it.”
When Frey spoke with a gentle smile, Leo raised his lowered head and met his eyes.
Frey Rubellia was such a high-ranking noble that Leo scarcely dared look at him. He had even served as the Imperial Crown Prince’s childhood companion alongside a duke. Leo had always thought nobles were haughty and arrogant, so Frey’s reaction astonished him. Far from looking down on Leo, Frey treated him as though nothing were unusual.
“Oh, but if you give me the bed, where will you sleep, Sir?”
“What? Oh, I-I’ll sleep out in the kitchen…….”
“It’ll be cold.”
“I’m fine! I’m healthy too……!”
Frey firmly shook his head at Leo’s words.
