Something’s Not Right About This Transmigration - Chapter 15.1
Frey clenched his fists at the greed staining the man’s face.
Who were these people?
From the way they spoke, they seemed to be looking for Leo.
The thought that they might seize and sell Frey merely because he was inside the house was terrifying.
He wanted to hide in a corner that instant. But doing so wouldn’t make them apologize sweetly for frightening him and go away.
If he couldn’t flee, it was better to put on a strong front.
“Who are you to cause such a disturbance in another person’s home?”
Frey hid his tension, straightened his back, and lifted his chin.
Hearing his polished, distinctly aristocratic manner of speech, the creditors hesitated and exchanged glances.
But soon, they strode forward with unpleasant smiles.
“Who do you think we are? Creditors. You look like an omega, but you don’t have a scent.”
One man came close, bent to bring his eyes level with Frey’s, and looked over his shabby clothes. The corner of his mouth twisted.
“It might take a little while to break your spirit……. But you look as though you’ll sell for a good price. We can sell you, can’t we?”
“Why not? Herbert’s the bastard who fled to the capital without repaying us.”
A burly man seized Frey’s wrist. Frey did not hide his displeasure as he roughly struck the hand away.
“I understand you came to collect money from Sir Herbert, but I am a guest in this house. Where did you learn to treat a guest so rudely?”
The man’s fingers twitched at the icy voice. He looked back at his companions, wondering whether they had touched someone they should not have.
“So?”
The man in the rear approached and grabbed Frey by the collar with a rough hand.
“Then pay us yourself.”
“…….”
“Three hundred gold in principal. One hundred in interest. Four hundred gold in total.”
Four hundred gold?
Frey’s mouth fell open in shock.
He knew from the novel that Leo had debts.
But four hundred gold!
Frey did not know much about money in this world, but Regulus had explained it before. The jewels Frey carried were worth fifty gold, and five hundred gold could purchase several mansions outside the capital.
That meant four hundred gold was also an enormous sum that an ordinary person couldn’t possibly bear.
“What in the world did he use the money for……?”
If Leo had borrowed as much as three hundred gold, his family could not possibly be this poor.
There should have been at least one or two valuable objects left, yet Frey saw nothing of the kind in Leo’s house.
“You two must not be very close. You don’t even know what happened to Herbert’s parents.”
“…….”
“Rosifer! He invested a fortune with some researcher to cure that incurable disease! His parents caught it, or something like that.”
Frey’s fingers trembled faintly at their laughter.
Leo’s parents.
They had been mentioned several times in the novel, so Frey knew they would die. He had not known Rosifer was the cause.
‘That was why he went into debt too.’
In the novel, Samuel repaid all of Leo’s debts. More precisely, Leo completed every highly paid commission Samuel gave him, earned a fortune overnight, and used the money to clear them.
Something else had happened along the way……. Samuel resolved that as well, giving the two another opportunity to grow closer.
‘But…….’
The original story had never said creditors visited Leo’s home.
“Why are you silent? You wouldn’t have spoken up unless you could repay at least some of it, right?”
The man lightly tapped Frey’s cheek with the back of his hand.
“What a shame. The research could have been completed successfully if he had just one hundred more gold.”
“Exactly. And the research is being conducted by none other than House Rubellia.”
……What?
At the sudden statement, Frey asked without thinking.
“Research? Research into a cure for Rosifer?”
Wasn’t ‘Frey’ the only person in this world who could cure Rosifer?
Anyone could research a treatment, but as far as Frey knew, no such research was taking place at the Count’s estate.
