Something’s Not Right About This Transmigration - Chapter 14.2
“You might catch a cold if you sleep on the floor. The bed is large enough for two, so let’s sleep together beginning tonight.”
“N-no! How could I dare……?”
“Are you willing to freeze to death?”
When Frey tilted his head, Leo’s lips moved. He pretended he was fine, but Frey knew. Leo was extremely sensitive to the cold!
Besides, this house was bitterly cold even beneath a blanket. Leo must have shivered the entire time he slept on the floor.
“It’s alright, so sleep with me.”
When Frey wrinkled the tip of his nose, the corners of Leo’s mouth twitched faintly, and after moving his lips several times, Leo hung his head again.
“Alright…….”
Frey smiled in satisfaction at the barely audible answer.
Leo’s ears had turned red between strands of pink hair, but Frey did not notice.
Nor did he realize that this action had completely derailed the future he knew from the novel.
* * *
“He’s later than I expected…….”
Frey propped up his chin and narrowed his eyes at the view beyond the window.
It had been four days since he held Regulus’s hand and left the ducal mansion. Regulus had said he would come for Frey soon, yet there was still no sign of him.
‘It would be a disaster if Samuel found me first.’
Should Frey quietly leave after all?
He had hesitated to travel alone from the capital because someone there was targeting him. This, however, was a rural village a great distance away.
Only Regulus and Leo knew he was here.
‘He asked me to trust him…….’
Frey wanted to trust him and wait, but Regulus hadn’t even told him the plan. Waiting without knowing anything left him uneasy.
There had to be some reason Regulus couldn’t return for so long.
He knew ‘Frey’ better than Frey did. Perhaps he already expected Frey to act on his own if he remained out of contact for this long.
Of course, that assumed the real ‘Frey’ had a personality similar to his.
‘It’s probably better to act than wait.’
Once he made his decision, Frey immediately stood.
Leo had gone next door to collect food. If Frey was going to leave, this was his opportunity. He remembered the desperate look in Regulus’s eyes when he asked Frey to trust him and promised to help, but…….
“Once I escape the original story, I’ll never see him again anyway.”
It was better to cut ties quickly than grow attached only to leave. These people were connected to the real ‘Frey’, not to him.
“Let’s go.”
Frey stuffed the nightclothes he had worn when he left the ducal mansion into his bag. They were made of fine fabric and even embroidered with the crest of House Norbert. Perhaps they would fetch a little money if he sold them somewhere.
“They can’t use this to trace my route, can they……?”
No, surely not.
They weren’t connected by some desperate love. No one would search for him.
Even so, it made him anxious. He should sell it as soon as possible.
Bang, bang, bang!
Just as Frey packed his bag and prepared to leave, someone pounded roughly on the door.
“Hey, Herbert! Open this door right now!”
“Someone saw you enter the house. Are you going to open it or not?”
Frey froze at the vicious voices.
Were these the people who had attacked him before?
They were clearly calling for Leo, but the unease simmering beneath the surface made it hard to think clearly.
The moment his heart began to pound and his breathing turned ragged, the man outside kicked the wooden door.
Crack!
“Leo Herbert, you bastard! The money you borrowed…… What the hell?”
The men who burst through the broken door found Frey frozen in the center of the room.
One man’s gaze swept over his silver hair with its subtle blue cast and his jewel-like violet eyes. Then he licked his lips lecherously.
“We came to collect money, and here we find something worth selling.”
……Why did nothing ever go right?
