Something’s Not Right About This Transmigration - Chapter 20.2
“I will accept any punishment. If you order me to resign my knighthood, I will. But please spare my life……. I still have parents to support…….”
Leo’s voice trembled more and more. Frey sighed and adjusted his posture.
“Stand up, Leo. I didn’t bring this up to hold you responsible. And if you resign as a knight, how will you support your parents?”
How would someone buried under a mountain of debt make money?
“I wanted to ask whether your parents have Rosifer.”
“Ah……. Yes……. They’ve been ill for nearly three years. People tell me to prepare myself, but I can’t bring myself to let them go…….”
Large tears rolled down Leo’s bowed face.
Veins stood out in his neck and across the backs of his tightly clenched hands.
Leo had participated in the search of Isaac’s mansion, so he must have discovered where the money he handed over had gone.
He knew that he had been swindled, and that there was no treatment for his parents.
Frey watched the trembling shoulders and falling tears, imagining how deeply Leo must despair.
“I believe you already know what happened in that mansion and who took your money…….”
House Rubellia. More precisely, the Count himself was involved.
That meant…….
“I’m sorry you were dragged into my father’s vile crimes. I don’t have enough money to repay what you lost, so I’d like to do what I can for you.”
“……Pardon?”
“Please let me meet your parents.”
Leo’s eyes widened at Frey’s words.
During Isaac’s arrest, Leo had heard the man shouting.
“We have to capture the Young Lord……. We need to know where his power to cure Rosifer comes from. Only then can we save more people…….”
At first, Leo had thought it was the nonsense of a madman.
As far as he knew, there had not been a single confirmed case of a Rosifer patient making a full recovery.
How could Frey possibly cure Rosifer?
But judging by what Frey was saying now…….
“Can you really…… cure it……?”
“Somehow, yes.”
“Then you mean…….”
“I will heal your parents, Sir Herbert.”
Leo’s head snapped up.
“No.”
The words came not from Leo, but Samuel. When Frey tilted his head at the firm reply, Samuel made no attempt to hide his displeasure.
“You should know better than anyone what using your ability does to you. Yet you still intend to heal someone else?”
“Does to him?”
When Leo asked, Samuel immediately closed his mouth.
Samuel still believed using Frey’s ability endangered his lifespan. Leo was an outsider, so he couldn’t be allowed to learn about the ducal spouse’s health. Samuel hesitated to continue, and Frey gently spoke instead.
“I don’t know what you mean, Your Grace, but my decision hasn’t changed.”
As the novel’s protagonist, Leo would suffer countless emotional wounds.
Through it all, he had no one he could speak to openly.
That had troubled Frey throughout the novel.
But if Frey healed Leo’s parents, perhaps Leo would be able to endure the painful events to come.
Samuel’s expression grew harder in disbelief as he listened.
“You were always cautious whenever you used your ability. It seems you’ve decided to stop being careful.”
“What?”
“You’re behaving quite differently from when you healed my father.”
Frey let out a short exclamation at the pointed words.
Samuel seemed offended that Frey had delayed the former Duke’s treatment for so long, yet readily offered to heal Leo’s parents.
“Why? Do you know someone else who needs treatment, Your Grace?”
“……Pardon?”
“Hmm……. I was originally going to charge one thousand gold per person. But I’m feeling generous! For you, Your Grace, I’ll charge only three hundred gold each.”
