Something’s Not Right About This Transmigration - Chapter 4.2
“…….”
“Whichever it is, I am truly relieved to see that you have not changed. At least I caught you before you fled this time.”
Why did he speak as though Frey had tried to run away before? Had that also happened in the past Frey knew nothing about?
When he tilted his head in utter confusion, Samuel let out a disbelieving laugh.
“Yes, by all means. Pretend you don’t know this time too, just as you’ve always pretended not to know. That way…… your married life will be nothing less than hell.”
Frey swallowed at the words Samuel ground out.
This went far beyond Samuel simply not loving ‘Frey.’
There was a seemingly ancient rage in those golden eyes.
Samuel hated ‘Frey’.
“……No wonder.”
Frey had wondered why Regulus told him to reconsider marrying Samuel.
‘Their relationship was far worse than Regulus had let on……!’
He could have explained in a little more detail!
Frey cursed inwardly, hid his agitation, and looked up at Samuel.
“You mentioned marriage.”
“…….”
“The Count…… no, my father did vaguely mention it. He said we’re meeting tomorrow to set a new wedding date.”
“…….”
“But from the way you’re speaking now, it sounds as though you dislike me. May I ask why you still want this marriage?”
Samuel’s expression grew increasingly distorted the longer Frey spoke.
But there was nothing Frey could do about that.
How could he pretend to know when he had no idea why Samuel disliked him?
Fortunately, Regulus had spoon-fed him one useful fact that could help cover everything he didn’t know.
‘Amnesia!’
Both Regulus and the Count seemed to know that ‘Frey’ collapsed after using his ability. If so, there was a high chance Samuel, his childhood friend and fellow childhood companion to the Imperial Crown Prince, knew as well.
Had they not even said that ‘Frey’ had spent three months confined to bed because of the side effects of using his ability?
‘With the Count’s personality, he must have offered every excuse in the world and asked them to wait. There’s no chance he said nothing about the side effects.’
Frey therefore decided to pretend he had amnesia.
……It was true that he had no memories, after all.
“Why?”
When Frey put on an innocent expression, as though he knew nothing at all, Samuel exhaled sharply.
His gaze brimmed with disgust, as though asking whether Frey could possibly mean what he had just said.
“Your life must be very convenient, Young Lord. Whenever something troublesome happens, you need only pretend you do not remember it.”
“…….”
“But I believe I told you this earlier. If you mean to lie, you should at least put some effort into it.”
The instant Samuel finished speaking, his hand shot out and seized Frey by the collar.
“Ghk, ugh……!”
Frey’s feet left the ground as his throat was crushed. He twisted in pain and beat against Samuel’s arm, but Samuel only growled.
“If you do not remember, then I will make you remember.”
Samuel turned and dragged Frey away behind him.
He shoved Frey into a carriage standing not far away, almost throwing him inside, then addressed the coachman.
“To the mansion.”
The carriage moved at the curt command. Frey grabbed Samuel’s arm in protest as it rattled along.
“From this moment on, you are going to the ducal mansion to heal someone.”
At the ominous pronouncement, the alpha pheromones Samuel had kept under control burst outward in every direction.
A heavy, cold scent powerful enough to choke him filled the carriage. Frey clutched his throat, his mouth opening and closing soundlessly.
“If you fail to heal that person, you will never leave the ducal mansion again.”
The air around Frey seemed to turn into sharp thorns that pierced him.
It hurt.
As Frey struggled even to breathe, Samuel’s low voice pierced his ears.
“I will make certain of it.”
