When the brilliant light faded, Edmund lay there looking perfectly healthy, as though he had never been ill.

His blackened, swollen skin had completely returned to normal, and Edmund’s perilously faltering breaths gradually steadied.

“He truly…… healed him…….”

Samuel slowly approached the bed with an expression of disbelief. While he examined Edmund’s condition, Frey staggered back a couple of steps.

He didn’t even have time to shudder at the horrific incantation. His vision shook and his stomach twisted as though he might vomit.

“Ugh, nnngh……. Samuel……?”

“F-Father…….”

Samuel was already speaking with Edmund, who had regained consciousness. His face, contorted as though he might burst into tears at any moment, looked nothing like the cold expression he had worn moments ago.

……Edmund looked completely well. Frey had healed him, so surely he could leave now.

When his head throbbed again, Frey reached out, caught hold of the hem of Samuel’s clothes, and spoke.

“I’ve confirmed that he’s recovered, so…….”

Frey hurriedly covered his mouth before he could continue. Something hot surged from deep within his stomach and dampened his palm.

Frowning, Frey slowly lowered his gaze.

“Uh…….”

Something looked…… red…….

His vision blurred out of focus, and a sharp ringing sounded in his ears. The world spun at the same time, and all strength drained from his knees.

“I…….”

……He had meant to leave immediately.

“It’s not…… that I’ve changed my mind…….”

“……Frey?”

“I just…… don’t feel very well…….”

Frey’s knees abruptly buckled.

He collapsed before he could brace himself with his hands, his lips moving as he barely managed to continue.

“I’ll only…… rest…… one night…….”

Then I’ll go…….

Before he could finish the thought, his consciousness receded into the distance. His limp head struck the floor with a soft thud.

“……rey. Frey!”

Frey frowned at the urgent voice.

His stomach was already churning and his head ached, yet rough hands kept shaking his body.

“Ugh, nnngh, nnnngh…….”

Moaning, Frey barely managed to lift his heavy eyelids. Just as the soft chandelier light began to sting his eyes, a dark shadow repeatedly passed over his face.

“You……!”

Frey blinked slowly and stared blankly at the black hair hanging before his eyes.

“Do you know where you are? Do you know who I am?”

At the sight of Regulus, who looked almost desperate, Frey’s lips moved.

“Why are you here…… Your Highness……?”

He had clearly been dragged to the Norbert mansion as though kidnapped……. And he thought he had healed the former Duke so that he could escape Samuel…….

As Frey searched his memory and blinked blankly, the corners of Regulus’s eyes drew into a fierce glare. He soon pressed his lips tightly together, however, as if suppressing his emotions.

“Why are you here?”

“…….”

“I told you. I clearly told you I would help.”

Frey clamped his mouth shut at Regulus’s restrained voice. Come to think of it, Regulus had said that the previous night.

If Frey wanted to run away, he would help him.

“Well…….”

Frey grabbed his throat when he tried to speak.

He felt as though he should at least make an excuse, but his throat hurt like it was being scraped with sandpaper, and his voice wouldn’t come out properly.

“……Enough. Do not speak.”

Regulus swept back his hair and let out a short sigh. His rigid expression loosened a little, so he must have been terribly worried.

“I’m sorry…….”

“…….”

“I was…… in a hurry…….”

Frey mumbled and cautiously lowered his gaze.

In truth, he had vaguely known his body might hurt from the aftereffects.

He’d been told he’d remained unconscious for three months after treating an illness, and the novel had also mentioned the aftereffects Frey suffered after using his ability.

‘I knew there were side effects, but I didn’t know I’d cough up blood and collapse.’

He hadn’t known Regulus would come running and worry like this either.

When Frey fell silent while watching his reaction, Regulus roughly raked a hand through his hair in frustration.

“I know you were in a hurry, but how could you treat someone without the slightest care for your own body? You were lucky to get off this lightly, but……!”
