……As if Frey had asked him for it.

If he wouldn’t answer Frey’s questions, why did he insist on picking a fight over every little thing?

“You don’t have to give me anything. Just let me leave when the treatment is done.”

Samuel’s fine brows drew together at the curt answer. He looked as though he could not accept the words coming from Frey’s mouth at face value.

“……You’d better keep your word. Even if you say you can’t do it this time, I won’t simply let you leave.”

Frey had expected Samuel to seize his wrist and drag him away in delight the moment he offered to perform the treatment. Instead, Samuel stood in the hallway and asked the same sort of question several times.

It was as though he could not believe a single word Frey said.

Finally, Frey swept his hair back in irritation and asked.

“Isn’t it urgent?”

The moment he finished, Samuel’s brows furrowed slightly. He displayed his displeasure, then turned without a word and headed down the opposite corridor.

“Hey, wait for me!”

Seriously, what a strange temper.

“This person is…….”

Frey stared at the person lying in bed.

“The person you must heal. My father, the former Duke, Edmund Norbert.”

Blackened, dying skin. An angry redness beneath the eyes. Flesh swollen as though edema had spread through the entire body.

These were the typical symptoms of Rosifer, the deadliest epidemic in existence.

No treatment had any effect on the disease, not even a mage’s healing magic. And it was an illness only Frey could cure.

He did not know why.

The novel had only said that someone unworthy had been chosen by a vanished god.

“You must heal him, especially after speaking with such confidence.”

Frey let the threat go in one ear and out the other as he gazed at Edmund’s face. The man looked as though he might stop breathing at any moment.

The novel had clearly said that when Frey used his ability, those afflicted with Rosifer recovered at once.

So if he used his ability…….

“Ah.”

……Come to think of it, how did he heal someone?

Frey glanced at Samuel, who was glaring at him with ominous eyes. It was a look that suggested he would strangle Frey the instant he said anything other than that the treatment was complete.

‘Damn, what should I do?’

Behaving recklessly without a plan in a bleak novel was a fine way to lose one’s head. Ah, was that why ‘Frey’ died?

As Frey chewed anxiously on his lip and stared at Edmund, a passage flashed through his mind.

“Ah!”

He remembered!

Frey sat in the chair beside the bed and clasped Edmund’s hand between both of his. Then he brought their joined hands to his forehead and squeezed his eyes shut.

‘It said he muttered a short, incomprehensible incantation…….’

An incantation. An incantation…….

What was it?

Frey cautiously opened one eye and mumbled.

“Be healed? Please get better? Please heal? Um, well, God, please help……?”

……Nothing changed.

“Hmm……. Hocus-pocus? No, is that too old-fashioned? Abracadabra…… no, that one kills people.”

Frey frowned and squeezed Edmund’s hand tightly as he whispered. Samuel’s fist also clenched tighter and tighter as he watched the treatment.

“Incantation, incantation, incantation! What’s the incantation? Heal, presto! There’s no way it’s something like th…….”

At that instant, brilliant white light burst from their clasped hands and enveloped Edmund’s entire body.

At the same time, healthy color returned to his blackened skin, and his ragged breaths gradually became even.

Frey shot to his feet and staggered back two steps.

His face and even the tips of his ears flushed scarlet as he covered his mouth and hung his head.

‘Fuck…….’

How could something like that be the incantation?
