That Face Is the Problem - Chapter 1.2
“I really hope you can come. I am a fan of Hunter Jeong Jae-gyeong.’”
“Huh, wha…?”
Jae-gyeong made a strangled sound, but she handed him the envelope and left.
I-is this… a love letter? The light pink envelope with a silver sticker looked so pretty. Jae-gyeong ran into the men’s restroom, hid, and carefully opened the envelope with trembling hands. But it was not a confession from a mutual love.
Seo Da-in ♡ Kim Nam-hyun
“Uh…?”
It was a wedding invitation. A notice that the in-house lawyer of the same team was marrying someone.
That day, Jae-gyeong drank heavily and took a sick day the next day. At home, he drank soju by the crate, vomiting and drinking again. For four days straight, including the weekend, he drank away all the moisture from his body, and on Monday morning, he submitted his resignation with puffy, swollen eyes.
Everyone tried to stop him, but he ignored all of it. The wedding invitation had already been torn and thrown in the trash. Attending her wedding would have been self-harm. Liking her even more would have been the same.
But simply avoiding the wedding and trying to let go of his feelings was not enough. Staying in JK Guild would mean hearing news about her wedding, honeymoon, and maybe even pregnancy and childbirth.
Jae-gyeong was naturally soft-hearted and weak. He knew he could never endure that future. Every past unrequited love had ended the same way.
Watching from the sidelines, rotting inside, shrinking, and eventually hating himself. Crying, drunk, suffering through absurd fantasies in dreams and waking up miserable. He wanted none of that anymore.
So he submitted his resignation. To break free from this miserable cycle of unrequited love.
He did not want to work at the same company. Therefore, he changed jobs.
This simple and clear conclusion gave him some strength. His lease was ending soon anyway, so he could move closer to his new workplace.
Being an A-rank hunter and chief tanker of a major guild, he had plenty of money. Within a week, he chose a new home, completed the lease, and called the moving company.
During that time, he had interviewed at several new guilds. Everyone welcomed his transfer enthusiastically. He chose the guild that was farthest from JK Guild.
Exactly two weeks and three days after receiving the wedding invitation, he started at the new guild.
“Hello, I am A-rank holy knight Jeong Jae-gyeong… I am a tanker…”
He bowed in front of the new guild members and lowered his eyes. Applause erupted. When it quieted, one guild member said in surprise:
“Wow, you got a tanker so fast. Did the guild master poach him from JK?”
“No, he submitted his resume first.”
“What perfect timing. Welcome, Hunter Jeong Jae-gyeong. Our tanker Kang Soo-hyeok just resigned.”
“Please take care of me, Hunter Jeong Jae-gyeong.”
The guild members seemed very close. Jae-gyeong slowly lifted his head. Across from him sat a hunter so handsome and famous that just looking at him made people gasp.
Hyeon Hee-ro. Guild master of the Training Guild, Team 1 leader, and S-rank assassin ranked second in South Korea.
Next to him sat a sharp-featured, purple-eyed beauty. He was another hunter so famous in Korea, even the world, that almost no one did not know him.
Jin Jeong-eon. S-rank soul-user. Ranked first in South Korea and third in the world. He had been the Training Guild master until last year, then returned the position to Hyeon Hee-ro and focused on building the National Hunter Cooperative (Jae-gyeong was also a member).
Kim Ye-jin and Yoo Ri-na, sitting side by side to the left, were strong hunters who had long worked with Hyeon Hee-ro. They were respectively a mage and an archer. Being famous made Jae-gyeong feel somewhat intimidated.
Then there should be a healer… Jae-gyeong glanced at the man sitting with his back to the door, only able to see the back of his head. While the new member greeted everyone, the healer never turned to look.
“Here, sit next to Da-sol. Ah, Da-sol is our team healer. You should get along with the tanker, so say hello.”
Hyeon Hee-ro gestured to the empty seat beside the healer. Jae-gyeong bowed and sat next to Da-sol. Just as he was about to greet him…
“Uh…?”
Jae-gyeong froze. The person sitting there was… Seo Da-in, the reason he had transferred jobs and moved.
