After finishing his shower, Da-sol noticed a missed call on his phone. It was from his older sister, Seo Da-in. He lightly ignored the notification and opened YouTube to watch a wildlife documentary. However, within five minutes, Da-in called again.

“…Why.”

Da-sol answered his sister’s call with a scowl.

-“Hey, Seo Da-sol! Did you see my missed call or not? You ignored it again, didn’t you?”

“What do you want?”

-“Ugh… We’re having a meal with Nam‑hyun’s family, so you’re coming too.”

“We already had a meeting before the formal introduction.”

-“This time it’s just Nam‑hyun’s younger sister, not his parents! Nam‑hyun said to bring you along.”

“No.”

-“No, what do you mean no? Come.”

“Fine, no. I’m hanging up.”

Da-sol hung up immediately and promptly blocked Da-in. He could unblock her tomorrow. Otherwise, she would keep calling and bothering him.

His sister, Da-in, would soon marry a coworker. A few years ago, she had been a fervent fan of Hyeon Hee-ro, but when she learned that he was dating Jin Jeong-eon, she decided to quit the fandom completely.

Hyeon Hee-ro, who had spread countless rumors in the past, seemed to have genuinely fallen in love with Jeong-eon. That had irritated Da-in. She removed all Hyeon Hee-ro posters and photos from her room and sold all his merchandise. Then she declared that she would focus only on work.

Two years after that declaration, she met her future brother-in-law, who looked somewhat like Hyeon Hee-ro, and received a wedding invitation.

‘He looks a bit like Hyeon Hee-ro.’

When Da-sol said this, Da-in sighed as if in pain and explained.

‘What can I do if my type is pine trees.’

He was obviously tall, fit, had a slightly soft expression, and smiled often. That, according to Da-in, was her “pine tree” type. Da-sol thought it was basically just a way of saying she liked handsome men.

At the formal introduction, her future brother-in-law turned out to be unexpectedly gentle. He was completely infatuated with Da-in and marveled that Da-in and Da-sol resembled each other. Da-sol, experienced in reading men’s hidden intentions, gave him high marks just for not having impure thoughts toward him.

However, the future brother-in-law’s younger sister blushed the moment she saw Da-sol. Da-in, noticing this, delicately defended her by saying, “She’s from a non-awakened family. She’s probably just happy to meet a hunter.”

Da-sol, however, immediately knew. He was highly sensitive to others’ sexual interest. The younger sister of his future brother-in-law, in other words, his future sister-in-law, was clearly infatuated with him. This was neither arrogance nor narcissism. It was simply the truth.

“Shouldn’t you, as my sister, filter this kind of thing? If a handsome guy asks for something, she just says yes…”

Da-sol clicked his tongue and returned to YouTube. The video featured a wolf, described as a symbol of pure, lifelong love with a single mate.

Seo Da-in should learn something from this.

Da-sol shook his head while watching the video. Just because she resembled Hyeon Hee-ro a little, she ended up dating and marrying him. In fact, he felt a bit sorry for her future brother-in-law. Perhaps he was just a substitute for Hyeon Hee-ro. Despite her “pine tree type” explanation, when everything was stripped away, she still truly loved the original, Hyeon Hee-ro.

Da-sol had never loved anyone sincerely or planned to marry, but he believed that if such a person existed, one should dedicate their entire life to them.

In that sense, he disliked that Guild Master Hyeon Hee-ro had dated different people, including showing interest in Da-sol at one point, before finally being with Jeong-eon. Jeong-eon was rare in this era—truly good and upright. Da-sol also considered him a friend.

He believed love was precious, something that came only once in a lifetime. Spending shallow passion on someone without truly loving them and treating time together as a game was a grave offense to both parties.

‘Well, I guess I can’t help that Jeong-eon likes him.’

Da-in had apparently loved Hyeon Hee-ro for eight years. That could truly be considered real love. Why she liked someone like Hyeon Hee-ro for eight years, he did not know, but tastes varied.

Da-sol turned off the video and entered his bedroom. Ultimately, it had nothing to do with him. Let them play their love games. He would do his assigned work every day, enjoy his free time, and simply protect the world to make that possible.

“Shuri, set the alarm for five p.m.”
