He remembered Da-sol earlier, who had held him back and warned him about Sang-min. That was definitely an act of goodwill. Perhaps it was less about Da-sol having feelings for him and more about doing what was proper on a human level.

Still, it was something. Da-sol was truly a good person. Jae-gyeong felt moved.

You could not generalize classes, but most people awakened as healers were good-natured. They became healers because they wanted to help others. Many had experience in the medical field.

‘Da-sol probably awakened while in college… Was he a medical student?’

Or maybe there were sick people around him that influenced him.

As Jae-gyeong’s imagination ran wild, a twinge of sadness arose. A person so good, being a man, must have had many experiences that made him tough and resilient, perhaps even cynical at times.

Sang-min’s bad habits with his hands were likely something Da-sol had experienced firsthand, which was why he could warn Jae-gyeong.

‘I should have hit Sang-min a bit harder earlier…’

Jae-gyeong regretted moderating the strength of his attacks against Sang-min.

He changed his clothes and took a shower in the attached facility. He had intended to go home if Da-sol had been around, but fortunately, he was not.

Afterward, he went to the cafeteria, ate a large portion of truffle oil pasta and salad for lunch, and then worked out for about two hours before heading home, pleasantly full.

He secretly hoped he might run into Da-sol in the elevator again, but it did not happen. As the day was coming to an end, an emergency alert came through.

⚠ Emergency Alert

[Hunter Management Bureau]

An emergency gate appeared in Jongno District, Seoul at 18:23 today.

It is estimated to be S-rank. Citizens are advised to evacuate quickly and remain in a safe location until hunters are dispatched.

Jae-gyeong’s expression darkened. He hurried out of his house and pressed the elevator button.

Three years ago, a second-grade rift had occurred. Training guild hunters Jeong-eon and Hee-ro had sealed it, but since then, emergency gates had been appearing more frequently. Dungeon ranks had also increased. Hunter training intensified, and the number of awakened individuals continued to rise daily.

Hunters were busier than ever, and citizens had become desensitized to disasters. It had become normal.

Ding. The elevator arrived at the 8th floor. Someone was already inside: Da-sol, fully equipped in combat gear. Jae-gyeong flinched without realizing it.

“What are you doing? Not getting in?”

Da-sol asked, his voice slightly annoyed.

“Oh, sorry…!”

Jae-gyeong quickly entered the elevator. As soon as he stepped in, Da-sol mercilessly pressed the close button.

A brief silence fell, but Da-sol spoke first.

“Don’t move so sluggishly in the dungeon because you’re conscious of me. You’ll die instantly. But you already know that, I guess.”

“Yes. Thank you for the advice…”

Jae-gyeong bowed his head respectfully. Da-sol rolled his eyes in exasperation and walked toward the door. Jae-gyeong followed directly behind him.

The elevator doors opened, and as soon as they reached the first floor, both men shot out like bullets.

***

Jae-gyeong boarded the large van waiting in front of the guild, simply following Da-sol. He took a seat in the empty back row, next to Da-sol.

The team members were already inside. The driver was the vice guild master, Jin Gyeong-jin. Jae-gyeong remembered feeling intimidated when he had first met him during the interview.

“Hello…”

Jae-gyeong greeted softly.

“Hello, Jae-gyeong. I was about to call, but you moved quickly. Glad we got JK’s ace here,” Hee-ro said.

“You should clarify immediately, Guild Master. We didn’t take Jeong Jae-gyeong forcibly. He resigned on his own and joined our guild,” Jin Jeong-eon added.

“Oh, right, right. I think that was a great choice, Jae-gyeong,” Hee-ro said, chattering while leaning on Jeong-eon. Gyeong-jin, driving, glanced at Hee-ro and Jeong-eon with a slightly uncomfortable look and shifted gears. Soon, the van started moving.

“How did you two end up coming together?”

Ri-na turned around and asked.

“Oh… it turns out Da-sol and I live in the same apartment. We met in the elevator,” Jae-gyeong explained.

“What? Same apartment? Crazy!”

Ri-na’s mouth fell open in shock. All the team members, except Gyeong-jin, also stared wide-eyed at Jae-gyeong.

“What a coincidence! So you met in the elevator today?”

Ye-jin asked, curious.

“Uh…”
