That Face Is the Problem - Chapter 3.1
Jae-gyeong felt as if he were being pulled into the pink light inside Da-sol’s eyes. He swallowed hard and stared straight at Da-sol, who had the same face as the woman he used to think about every day and long for.
Da-sol seemed to dislike how he interpreted their eye contact, because he quickly frowned. His lips, which really did look like ripe cherries, parted. The sight moved in slow motion. In contrast, Jae-gyeong’s heart began to pound so fast it felt like it might explode.
‘It feels like Da-in with short hair is about to say something to me. She is looking right at me. She is sitting beside me.’
The moment he thought that, his breath caught and heat rushed to his face. He felt like he would faint. But if he passed out here, he would miss Da-sol’s first words. Jae-gyeong clenched his fists and fought to keep his mind together.
And finally, a low and curt voice slipped out from between Da-sol’s pretty lips.
“Are you staring at me because you want me to comfort you too?”
Jae-gyeong blinked. Did he hear that wrong? The tone just now had felt extremely aggressive.
“Oh my god, he is doing it again.”
Ri-na clutched her head dramatically and made a fuss from the front. Ye-jin gave a small bow toward Jae-gyeong as if apologizing on Da-sol’s behalf.
Jae-gyeong’s face darkened immediately. Does the healer have a mind-reading skill? He thought only mind-users had that. Did he realize that I looked at him and thought of Da-in? Was it because my voice was not steady? Does he find even being looked at by me unpleasant? His thoughts spun wildly. Panic was closing in.
At that moment, Hee-ro clapped his hands once.
“Jae-gyeong, relax. Da-sol is always a bit prickly with everyone. Usually men see Da-sol and suddenly start confessing or sexually harassing him. Ahaha. You must feel unfairly treated, Da-sol.”
Following Hee-ro’s attempt to mediate, Ri-na quietly took Jae-gyeong’s side as well.
“Honestly, the new tanker only stared for like five seconds. Da-sol oppa is seriously overly sensitive.”
“We apologize, Hunter Jeong Jae-gyeong. We are all used to this, but as you can see, Hunter Seo Da-sol is extremely shy around strangers. Once you grow used to each other, he will act less like this. Please do not worry.”
Jeong-eon at least explained it from Da-sol’s perspective. Jae-gyeong sniffed lightly and nodded.
From what the guild members said, it seemed Da-sol had suffered a lot because of his beautiful face, which resembled Da-in’s, and his cool yet fiery personality, which also resembled Da-in’s. And on top of that, he was this shy with strangers. Jae-gyeong also had trouble with strangers, and since he was timid and introverted, he could understand Da-sol very well.
“It is, it is all right. I am also shy around strangers. I understand.”
“Thank you for understanding.”
Jeong-eon raised only the corners of his lips and gave a gentle smile. Jae-gyeong bowed awkwardly, unsure where to put himself.
Not only had he ended up on the same team as the strongest hunter in South Korea, whom he had only seen on TV or online, he also had the chance to see him smiling. Coming to the Training Guild had been a good decision, both for sorting out his feelings and for many other reasons. Jae-gyeong returned the kindness with a smile of his own.
“Ahem.”
At that moment, Hee-ro, who was sitting next to Jeong-eon, leaned forward as if shielding Jeong-eon with his body. When Jeong-eon protested with, “What are you doing, Hee-ro,” Hee-ro’s cold blue eyes flashed as he stared at Jae-gyeong threateningly.
Why is Hunter Hyeon Hee-ro glaring at me? Does he think my smile meant I was trying to flirt with Hunter Jin Jeong-eon? That was not my intention. I am not even good at romance. I do not have the will to date anymore.
Jae-gyeong shook his head hard. He already knew Hee-ro and Jeong-eon were lovers, and he quickly understood what Hee-ro was misunderstanding. But he hated the idea of getting caught in some pointless love triangle. He hurried to explain.
“I, I…!”
Everyone turned their attention to him. For someone timid, this was the worst possible situation.
“S, so, I… I have absolutely no intention of dating anyone ever again.”
“Huh? All of a sudden?”
Ri-na narrowed her eyes. Her reaction made his shoulders shrink, but he forced himself to continue explaining.
“I will never think about love… ever again, so… please do not worry… about that….”
You idiot. Jae-gyeong cursed himself internally. Do not worry about that? About that? Abat dat? Why do you not just wear a sign that says you are stupid?
Because of his personality, he had always been an outcast. Kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, high school. While other kids easily blended into groups and enjoyed a cheerful school life, Jae-gyeong always sat alone in silence. At least he had been tall and big since he was young, so he was never bullied. That was the only fortunate thing.
