That Face Is the Problem - Chapter 2.2
That was something worth congratulating. Triplets at once, what a blessed family. Although it must be difficult… was what Jae-gyeong wanted to say. But he was not the type to chat casually in front of people he had just met, so all he managed was, “Ah… yes….”
Hyeon Hee-ro raised one eyebrow at his bland reaction. As if testing him, he continued speaking.
“He probably thinks he resigned, but I secretly processed it as childcare leave, so Su-hyeok will likely come back in a few years. That does not mean we will take you out of the team, so do not worry. Having two skilled tankers is only better for us. As long as you do not leave first. Ahaha.”
“Ah… haha, yes….”
A brief silence followed. Jae-gyeong was extremely used to this kind of silence. He lowered his head a little, humbly, and waited for someone else to speak next.
Thankfully, this time it was Jeong-eon who began explaining the guidelines.
“I have usually been doubling as the guard hunter assigned to our healer, but we plan to hire a new guard hunter soon. There are more and more dungeons I cannot personally enter.”
It was already widely known that Jeong-eon’s skill control had become much stronger. Rumors even spread recently that the global hunter ranking for second and third place might be reversed. Because he had become that strong, the Training Guild had shifted strategies to bring Jeong-eon only into dungeons above S rank.
“Ah, hiring a new guard hunter? That is not going to be easy.”
Ri-na said this while looking at Da-sol. Da-sol lightly ignored her comment.
“This time, do not rush the interview process. Choose carefully.”
Ye-jin tried to mediate, but Ri-na grumbled again.
“If a raid gets scheduled suddenly, we also have to find a guard hunter suddenly, you know. Those two or three years of peace were nice, but it looks like another bloodbath is coming.”
Bloodbath? Why would a bloodbath come up when they are hiring a guard hunter?
Jae-gyeong glanced around at the team members. But he did not have the courage to ask. He only swallowed the question, thinking he would find out eventually.
As if understanding what he was thinking, Jeong-eon explained immediately.
“The previous guard hunters were all terrible people, so they kept clashing with Hunter Seo Da-sol. That is why we are talking like this.”
“Ah….”
Come to think of it, he thought he had once heard something about the Training Guild’s healer assaulting a guard hunter. So that healer was Mr. Da-sol.
Da-in also had a bold personality, so Da-sol must be similar. Thinking that made the word bloodbath sound less frightening. It was probably just exaggerated. In fact, the resemblance to Da-in made Jae-gyeong feel even more fond of him.
“No. Fond? Absolutely not. I am not getting attached to anyone ever again.”
Jae-gyeong pressed his lips together tightly. His mouth set firmly. At that moment, tears suddenly streamed down his cheeks. The other guild members’ expressions froze.
“Wh, why are you suddenly crying?”
“Hunter Jeong Jae-gyeong, are you… are you alright?”
Ri-na and Ye-jin, who were seated across from him, were the first to notice and cried out.
“Hmm, Mr. Jae-gyeong. Did something bad happen?”
“Hunter Jeong Jae-gyeong, are you alright? Here is a tissue.”
Hyeon Hee-ro at the head of the table and Jeong-eon beside him also expressed concern for him. And then there was Da-sol, sitting right next to him…
“Hunter Seo Da-sol, please pass him a tissue.”
Da-sol accepted the small tissue pack Jeong-eon handed over and placed it in front of Jae-gyeong. That was all. He did not seem to care whether Jae-gyeong cried or not. He did not ask why, nor did he look at him. A perfect no-look pass. Jae-gyeong felt even more miserable.
But because he understood better than anyone how pathetic he looked, he silently took a tissue and wiped his tears.
“I am sorry… I suddenly remembered my old… coworker….”
He would sooner die than say he cried because he thought of the person he had a crush on. This was the best excuse he could manage.
But the expressions of the guild members (except Da-sol) dimmed slightly when they heard him. Somehow, it even felt like a sense of shared understanding formed.
“Hunters are used to it. Losing coworkers… you must have transferred because of that.”
Ye-jin said.
Sniffling, Jae-gyeong looked at her. What is she talking about…?
“It is okay if you cry. Really.”
Ri-na also nodded slowly. Hyeon Hee-ro whispered to Jeong-eon, loudly enough for everyone to hear, “But no one at JK Guild has died recen…”
His words were cut off when Jeong-eon squeezed his hand tightly.
“Hunter Jeong Jae-gyeong, we understand. You do not have to hide your emotions. You can consider us your teammates whenever you feel ready. We will not force anything.”
“Ah… thank you….”
He was thankful, but it also felt like a huge misunderstanding had taken root.
Then, the whole time he had been looking away, Da-sol finally turned his body toward Jae-gyeong.
Jae-gyeong’s breath caught instantly.
