Of course, he was not seriously considering changing jobs. The group living arrangement would end soon, and Da-sol would be busy building rapport with the new guard hunter, naturally growing distant from Jae-gyeong.

Jae-gyeong returned to the dorm and began packing his things little by little. He had been dragged here by Hee-ro as if he had been kidnapped, so he had not brought any luggage at first. Still, after living here for a while, he had accumulated things like a toothbrush, underwear, and clothes that needed to be taken with him.

Da-sol was not in the dorm. Thinking that it worked out well, Jae-gyeong roughly stuffed his few belongings into a plastic bag.

After that, he went into the kitchen and made a fresh batch of spicy pork stir-fry. That evening, he planned to talk more seriously with Da-sol about weapons. Now that there was a new guard hunter, they needed to choose Da-sol’s weapon while taking that hunter’s skills into account as well.

A C-rank fire mage, right…. There would probably be a time when they went into the mock training field as a group with Lee Hyeon. Or perhaps only Lee Hyeon and Da-sol would train together and then share the skill information with the rest of the team.

Usually, guard hunters trained more often in the latter way. After all, the role of a guard hunter was limited to protection, so there was no need to mobilize every team member.

“Could Da-sol be doing mock training with the new guard hunter right now?”

He knew that the acceptance notice would be sent either that evening or the next day, but with Da-sol absent, those thoughts kept creeping in. This was dangerous. Jae-gyeong stirred the pork more roughly. A sharp, spicy smell rose into the air.

“To think I might like Da-sol, and now I am already being this pathetic and jealous…. I am really hopeless.”

A few weeks ago, why had he been sobbing after drinking himself senseless at a bar? Was his sincerity really this fickle? Or was it that, even though he now knew Da-sol and Da-in were different people, their similar appearances still carried more weight?

The human heart belonged to oneself, yet there was no way to fully understand it, which made it all the more frustrating.

***

That evening, Da-sol returned to the dorm freshly showered. As soon as he walked in, he instantly caught the scent of spicy pork stir-fry and, with a rarely non-hostile expression, even asked, “Is it spicy pork for dinner today?” His face looked like that of a child anticipating a good meal, and Jae-gyeong could not hold back his laughter.

“Yes, I made a lot of spicy pork stir-fry….”

Da-sol took in the sight of fresh lettuce, perilla leaves, seaweed, a mountain of sunny-side-up eggs, and rice piled high on the table, then muttered, “Fuck…,” before darting into the bathroom to wash his hands and coming back out.

“Thanks for the meal.”

Da-sol greeted the food reverently, as he always did when it was time to eat, thanked Jae-gyeong, and picked up his chopsticks.

After learning that Da-sol was a big eater despite his appearance, Jae-gyeong had started giving him generously heaped bowls of rice, and Da-sol liked it a lot. He never said it outright, but it was obvious from the way his eyes lit up whenever he saw a bowl packed full of rice.

“How about we talk about weapons after dinner…?”

Jae-gyeong asked cautiously. Da-sol, who had been stuffing his cheeks full of rice, nodded. Somehow, his gaze toward Jae-gyeong seemed a little warmer.

Swallowing his smile, Jae-gyeong moved his chopsticks busily. He had made plenty, but if he did not hurry, Da-sol would take everything.

Who could have known it would turn into this.

“Why do you look like that?”

After finishing dinner, they sat side by side on the living room sofa, and Jae-gyeong’s complexion was pale. Pressing a hand against the tightly knotted area around his solar plexus, he replied,

“I think I might have indigestion….”

“Oh, really.”

At first, Da-sol did not believe that Jae-gyeong was sick. There had been countless men who had tried to make passes at Da-sol using excuses like having a cold, indigestion, or a headache.

“Have you thought about the weapon?”

Seeing Da-sol talk only about business without batting an eye, even though he had said he was unwell, Jae-gyeong felt hurt.

‘Well… why would Da-sol worry about me anyway…. To him, I am just the guy who cooks spicy pork….’

Feeling a bit miserable, Jae-gyeong pressed his lips together. If he was not careful, tears might fall. He quickly blinked while staring up at the ceiling.

“Ahem… uh, I am planning to order a shield with a pointed tip, like you recommended…. I, um, I drew it on my iPad, so just a moment. I will go get it….”

In truth, he could have shown the drawing on his phone, but to completely dry his tears, Jae-gyeong went into his room. He rubbed his eyes, fanned around them with his hand to cool them down, then deliberately pretended to rummage around for his iPad, dragging out the time.
