That Face Is the Problem - Chapter 31.2
However, throughout the interview, he could not answer properly because he kept staring back and forth at Hee-ro, Da-sol, and Jae-gyeong with a slack, dazzled expression.
“Gay.”
“He is gay.”
“He must be gay….”
All three of them thought the same thing. Hee-ro was beautiful enough to have built a massive fanbase based on his looks alone, and Da-sol went without saying. As for Jae-gyeong, if not for his timid demeanor, he was also a well-put-together, clean-looking handsome man. Anyone who liked men would inevitably end up drooling while admiring their appearances.
“That person is rejected.”
As soon as the second applicant left, Da-sol said coldly. Hee-ro and Jae-gyeong immediately agreed.
“We reviewed the documents very thoroughly and only called in two people for interviews, but still, both of them met the conditions pretty well, right? The last person was a bit… too focused on faces, which was uncomfortable. But I liked Mr. Lee Hyeon from the start.”
Hee-ro said this while lifting Lee Hyeon’s resume to look at it again. Jae-gyeong nodded along.
“I also viewed Hunter Yoon Yi-hyeon positively.”
Hee-ro and Jae-gyeong looked at Da-sol. What mattered most was Da-sol’s opinion.
“Well… it cannot be helped. Let us go with him.”
Da-sol spoke as if unwilling. No matter who they brought in, he would have disliked them. No, it was clear that he was simply sick of the very fact that a healer was someone who had to be protected by others.
Thinking that, Jae-gyeong felt sad along with him.
Da-sol was an exceptionally strong and excellent hunter, but because he was a healer, he only had healing-type skills. Because of that, he was incredibly vulnerable inside dungeons. Every time Da-sol was forced to realize that he was a weak person who absolutely had to be protected, Jae-gyeong could roughly imagine how frustrated he must feel, especially now that he knew Da-sol’s temperament so well.
“Da-sol, a guard hunter is someone who is absolutely necessary to make you into an even stronger healer. I know it feels uncomfortable, but thanks to a guard hunter, you will become an even more indispensable member of the team…. So please do not take it too badly….”
Jae-gyeong clenched his fists and gathered his courage as he spoke. Hee-ro and Da-sol stared blankly at him.
“Why… Why…? Did I maybe say something wrong just now…?”
Startled, Jae-gyeong asked with his eyes wide open.
“Ahaha, no. It is not that. You just spoke too well. Jae-gyeong, you are right. Da-sol, it will be hard to get in sync with a new guard hunter, but remember that we are choosing someone entirely for your sake, so hang in there a little.”
Hee-ro smiled brightly as he lightly patted Da-sol on the shoulder. Da-sol brushed his shoulder off with a slightly annoyed expression, then said to Jae-gyeong,
“Thank you.”
After that, Da-sol stood up, saying he would head out first, and left the meeting room. Laughing, Hee-ro said, “Oh wow, Da-sol said thank you, Jae-gyeong. You are amazing, haha,” and patted Jae-gyeong on the back before leaving as well.
And Jae-gyeong… remained sitting there, frozen stiff in the same posture as before.
“Thank you.”
That just now… was that really Da-sol who said it?
Only then did Jae-gyeong’s face flush bright red.
Da-sol had said thank you. Honestly, at best, he had expected something like “Mind your own business,” or “Oh, really.” But thank you. Thank you?!
Thump, thump….
Jae-gyeong clutched his chest as the thunderous sound he had not heard in a long time returned.
Thump, thump, thump….
The heart that had sworn never to love again was now shaking him violently, pounding loudly as if mocking its owner.
“This cannot happen…. Absolutely cannot…. Da-sol is Da-sol… he is Da-in’s younger brother….”
Jae-gyeong muttered rapidly. He quickly slapped his cheeks with both hands. When that still did not calm his heart, he slammed his forehead down onto the desk.
Crack. He heard the sound of the desk cracking. Only a red mark remained on Jae-gyeong’s forehead. He rubbed it blankly.
I am screwed. That thought alone dominated his mind. He knew all too well that this was not the first time he had felt his heart beat like this. He also knew exactly what this feeling was.
He wanted to pretend not to know, but he could not. Because it was the same feeling he had felt when his first love approached, when he saw Da-in, and when he first came face to face with Da-sol, who looked so much like Da-in.
“I think… I am starting to like Da-sol…. What should I do?”
In truth, he had vaguely sensed it for a while now, but Jae-gyeong had been desperately denying it. Once the group living arrangement ended, things would get better. If they went through more dungeons together, maybe it would turn into camaraderie. Now that he fully recognized that Da-in and Da-sol were different people, maybe something would finally change.
But that change was not supposed to come in the form of a new love….
“Do I… need to change jobs…?”
Just one week after being rehired, Jae-gyeong, still sitting in the interviewer’s seat, began to seriously consider his next place of employment.
