“So my mom and my younger sibling are both focused only on me… Uh, Jeong Jae-gyeong, are you crying right now?”

The two hunters were sitting across from each other in a café, each eating a generous sandwich and eggs Benedict. Suddenly, one of them bit his lip tightly and began to cry. Naturally, it was Jae-gyeong who was crying.

Startled, Lee Hyun held out a handful of tissues toward Jae-gyeong. Jae-gyeong took them and, with practiced movements, wiped his tears and blew his nose.

“I’m sorry… I tend to cry easily…”

“Ah, yes… Anyway, I need to spend more time training with Da-sol hyung. I want to get stronger and prove my abilities. As you know, I just recently joined…”

Lee Hyun looked down, speaking in a pitiful tone. He did not intend to sound pitiful, but to Jae-gyeong, it appeared that way. His tender heart ached.

“That’s right… I would probably feel the same if I were in your position, Lee Hyun…”

“Thank you. Um… If it’s not okay with you, you can refuse, but can I call you Jae-gyeong hyung?”

Gasp. Jae-gyeong’s eyes widened. Until yesterday, he had felt left out because everyone else addressed him differently. Now, Hyun had asked directly. He nodded vigorously, eyes shimmering with tears.

“Of course… Do whatever feels comfortable…”

“Hyung, you can speak casually to me too. Da-sol hyung never listens when I tell him to…”

“Al, alright… I’ll… speak casually…”

It was awkward, but Jae-gyeong felt that he could do anything Hyun asked of him.

Speaking casually was a small matter. Having joined around the same time as Hyun, Jae-gyeong had often dealt with worries alone. The fact that Hyun trusted him with his concerns and approached him warmly was something he appreciated deeply. He knew he was not naturally this kind-hearted.

“Anyway… Now that the ring item test is over, would it be okay if I spent more time with Da-sol hyung during mock training or exercise? I want to work hard on guarding and try using my skills in various ways. For that, I really need Da-sol hyung.”

“Do as you like. You don’t need my permission. I was just checking if the ring works properly anyway. It’s fine.”

Hyun’s request was reasonable. Jae-gyeong answered truthfully, without hesitation. There was no real need to match with Da-sol anymore. As long as the ring functioned well in real situations like during training, there was no reason to continue mock drills.

“I actually feel sorry for not noticing and considering it earlier…”

“No! Why apologize! I even thought coming here might be rude to you, Jae-gyeong hyung… But I considered that, since I have a goal, it’s okay even if you scold or dislike me.”

“Why would I scold or dislike you? Wanting to get stronger is a healthy ambition for any hunter. As long as it doesn’t overwhelm you, it’s fine.”

“Jae-gyeong hyung… You really are such a good person!”

Hyun thanked him several more times, bowing crazily at ninety degrees. He tried to pay, only to be shoved away by a single gesture from Jae-gyeong. In the end, Jae-gyeong paid, and they parted warmly.

‘He really was a little jealous… But he’s a good person…’

Jae-gyeong thought it was fortunate that such a hunter joined for guarding. He also felt a bit embarrassed, recalling how much he had monopolized Da-sol. Although he had been seeing Da-sol often recently, was it really necessary for a guard hunter like Hyun to make such a request? He felt flushed.

Mock training was originally meant to practice dungeon types in advance or synchronize with teammates. It was also used to test new items or weapons and develop skills.

In other words, the mock training was now better suited for the Da-sol and Hyun pair than for Da-sol and Jae-gyeong.

Jae-gyeong kept Hyun’s words in mind as he returned home. When he got off the elevator, he ran into Da-sol, who was about to press the doorbell.

“…Da-sol…?”

“I was about to ring the bell. Where have you been?”

“Ah… just… a friend…”

Jae-gyeong found himself lying without thinking. He did not know why. He just felt he had to lie. It seemed like the polite thing to do for Hyun.

“Oh, so you even have a friend.”

“….”

He felt extremely displeased. But Da-sol did not care and stepped slightly back.

“I came to eat together.”
