“This is truly bizarre. It’s like some kind of ghost story.”

While muttering those words, Yoon Tae-gyeom brushed off his shoulder and returned to his spot.

“For now, I believe we’ll only know the truth once we meet the President.”

“Right? I agree. Shall we go?”

Jeong Yeon-hwa extended her hand as if to escort him, but Yoon Tae-gyeom cleanly ignored it. Getting caught up in her pace would only make things more exhausting.

The two moved together and arrived at the President’s office.

“It is exactly as I reported. Nothing happened.”

Ryu Mo-san’s answer remained unchanged. Hearing this, Jeong Yeon-hwa narrowed her eyes, her gaze sharp as she tried to gauge the truth of his statement.

“More importantly, isn’t the Haetae Guild busy right now? I heard you deployed most of your personnel after winning the purification rights for North Korea.”

North Korea had failed to respond properly during the initial Gate outbreaks. To make matters worse, a rare S-rank Gate had exploded after failing to be cleared. Since then, North Korea has become a dead land. While people were said to remain, it was heard that most lived in hiding.

South Korea had recently begun purification work as a national project, and the Haetae Guild had secured those rights.

“We are busy, but the President’s life is more precious.”

Jeong Yeon-hwa lied without batting an eye.

“Haha, those are kind words. Regardless, I am fine now, so go tend to your business. I have no intention of holding anyone responsible for this incident. This was simply a natural disaster.”

“A disaster?”

“So, please withdraw.”

Thus, Jeong Yeon-hwa was forced to withdraw alone. She tried to hold her ground, but the President was firm. He seemed to have something he didn’t want to share with the Haetae Guild. Haetae had one of the nation’s top corporations as a sponsor, and Ryu Mo-san, the current President, was someone who worried about the country being swallowed by corporations.

“Let’s start with some tea.”

Knowing this, Yoon Tae-gyeom killed time by drinking the tea Ryu Mo-san offered, waiting for Jeong Yeon-hwa to move far away from the Blue House. How much time had passed?

“The Haetae Guild has withdrawn.”

Once the secretary delivered the news, Ryu Mo-san finally brought up the main point.

“Mr. Yoon Tae-gyeom, a great blessing has come to our country.”

“A blessing?”

“Yes, a blessing. We have gained a new means to keep other countries in check.”

“Is there such a means?”

“There is. An S-rank Awakened.”

Currently, there are four S-rank Awakened in South Korea and six in Japan. As for the United States, they had swept up high-ranking Awakened early on, so their numbers were second to none. China was also in a decent position due to its vast territory and large population.

“I shall introduce him to you. He will be affiliated with the Management Bureau anyway.”

The moment the President spoke, the door opened and someone stepped inside. Yoon Tae-gyeom scanned him quickly and was momentarily lost for words.

“He doesn’t look like a citizen of our country, does he?”

“Hasn’t the era of dividing nationality by appearance already passed?”

That was true, but the person before him possessed an appearance that made it difficult to guess his lineage.

“Greetings. My name is Vermouth.”

Even the name was perfectly foreign.

“From now on, he is the person who will become our country’s fifth S-rank!”

“What were the terms of recruitment?”

Instead of the President, Vermouth answered the question.

“I stated that I wished to become famous.”

“You want to be famous? If so, wouldn’t there be many other ways?”

With a face like that, he could appear in the media every day just by debuting as a celebrity.

“Celebrities cannot enter and exit Gates, can they?”

Vermouth offered a gentle smile.

“And do you have the ability?”

“He has it. He certainly does. Actually, regarding the collapse of the Blue House—it was Vermouth’s doing.”

“That is something even an A-rank Awakened could do.”

“What is certain is that he is not an A-rank. You may measure him at the Management Bureau. After all, isn’t that your job?”

“Very well. Assuming he is ranked as an S-rank, how do you plan to announce it?”

“I’ve already settled that too.”

The President answered calmly.

“Vermouth is someone who naturalized to our country from a small foreign nation. All the paperwork has already been prepared. You understand the significance of me telling this to you, Mr. Yoon Tae-gyeom?”

The President also knew that Yoon Tae-gyeom was the real power within the Management Bureau. That was why he was telling Yoon Tae-gyeom to accept Vermouth. If only he agreed with the President’s opinion, Vermouth would settle in South Korea without any interference. And Yoon Tae-gyeom could not refuse.

Because he wanted South Korea to become stronger.
