The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 16.1
A figure like a Holy Knight serving a god stood right before their eyes.
“Ah, I am so sorry.”
Yoon So-ra realized she had gotten too excited and quickly shut her mouth. However, her voice had already reached everyone else. Yoon Tae-gyeom let out a short sigh and asked Vermouth one last time.
“Are you truly sure there is nothing else you need?”
“Yes, I am fine.”
Vermouth’s reply was remarkably refreshing. He looked less like someone headed for a battle and more like someone going for a brief stroll.
“Then, I shall go and dispose of all the vermin.”
That was the extent of the words Vermouth left behind before entering the Gate.

Do you know the way to pass through a labyrinth? Most would think of keeping one hand against the wall and following it. Or perhaps tying a thread to the entrance before heading inside. If so, let me ask something else.
What is the fastest way to pass through a labyrinth?
Vermouth stood at the entrance of the labyrinth, rolled his shoulders lightly, and gripped his sword. He then channeled his power into the blade and swung in a straight line. With just that, the walls of the labyrinth blocking his path collapsed with a thunderous roar.
“One simply needs to destroy it.”
It was not as if people lived here, so why bother preserving the original form of the maze? Besides, if one makes a habit of such destruction, the monsters eventually seek out their own graves and gather on their own. This was the fastest way to clear a labyrinth known to Vermouth.
Destroy with the sword, kill, and burn. He did not forget the light prayers sent to the Goddess in between. Thus, Vermouth arrived at the boss room located in the deepest part faster than anyone else. The materials provided by the Management Bureau included information about the boss.
The boss’s name was Arachne. She was named after the woman from Greek mythology who was punished by a goddess and turned into a spider.
The upper body has a human form while the lower body is that of a spider, and she exhales spiderwebs with strong acidity. Furthermore, her size is quite massive, so if she jumps and crushes a target, that person is usually injured or killed. However, even Arachne was no match for Vermouth.
The problem lay elsewhere.
“Ho?”
There was something else next to Arachne. It had a graceful human shape. However, it wore a dark red suit and a cloak, and sharp fangs were visible outside its mouth. It was a vampire, a type of demon.
Vermouth’s purple eyes sparkled with an ecstatic golden light.
“O Goddess.”
The vampire, noticing the holy power, turned around in terror, and Arachne immediately fired her webbing. However, it withered away the moment it touched the golden light surrounding Vermouth.
“Why, why is there a Holy Knight here!”
The screaming vampire used his sharp claws to wound his own arm. As he swept his hand through the air, the drops of blood he spilled gathered to form sharp needles. The rapidly moving blood crystals rushed toward Vermouth, but that too was a futile effort. Vampires are stronger the closer they are to being pure-blooded, but the one here was not pure.
He seemed to be a subordinate created by a pure-blood. That alone would be enough to kill everyone in an average city, but vampires had a natural enemy. Specifically, beings possessing holy power. To ignore holy power and succeed in an attack, one must at least be a mid-level demon or higher.
“Kill him!”
“Kieeeek!”
Arachne leaped with her massive body, intending to crush Vermouth. Meanwhile, the vampire tried to flee. If the opponent had not been Vermouth, it might have been possible. Vermouth simply waved his hand to fling Arachne aside and threw his sword at the vampire. His sword pierced precisely through the vampire’s stomach.
“Heuk!”
The vampire tried to escape by turning his body into a blood mist, but he only let out painful groans as it did not work as intended. In the meantime, Vermouth leisurely separated Arachne’s upper and lower body. He then split open the writhing upper body and pulled a red mana crystal from within. This would serve as proof that he had killed the boss of an A-rank Gate.
Now, the mission was performed, but there was still work left to do.
Vermouth flicked his finger to retrieve his sword. The vampire, still skewered by the blade, was dragged all the way in front of Vermouth. He dug his claws into the floor in a desperate attempt to survive, but it had no effect. His claws were simply ripped out.
“Greetings.”
The polite greeting grated on the vampire’s nerves.
“You dog of Regnasia!”
