“Our secretary says he does not know you, though?”

Vermouth’s smile deepened.

“I believe he will come to know me soon enough. Very well. Then I shall see you in a bit.”

Though one might have expected him to persist, Vermouth withdrew with surprising grace. However, judging by his significant words, it seemed there was not much time left until the dungeon opened. He had always been uncannily quick to notice such omens.

At that exact moment, the air vibrated violently, and the sky tore open.

A massive hand ripped through the fissure and emerged, while monsters began pouring out from the gap. The monsters with wings took flight immediately, but those without simply plummeted. The weaker individuals died instantly upon impact, yet the monsters continued to hurl themselves down without the slightest hesitation.

“Aaaah!”

Screams erupted from all directions. The Awakened, who had been waiting at their posts, immediately began attacking the monsters. The Guild Masters who had been in the conference room did the same.

Yoon Tae-gyeom immediately drew up the water. Fortunately, being right next to the Han River made it much easier for him to use his abilities. The water he summoned pushed back and swallowed the monsters. Trapped within, the monsters were either suffocated or crushed to death.

On the other hand, Hong Seo-yun scorched the ground fiercely.

“Kuaaaaakh!”

And as the monsters’ bodies went up in flames, Choi Jae-heon crushed them. Just as they had previously discussed, each guild took charge of a specific sector to fend off the monsters. Since cooperation seemed difficult to begin with, they had opted for that method instead.

Even as he watched the Awakened struggle, Vermouth did not step forward; he simply stood by Ian’s side.

Ian let out a sigh and looked up at Vermouth. When the man took off his sunglasses, his obnoxious face was revealed.

“Why are you standing here?”

“You know as well as I do that it is not yet the time.”

In the sky where Vermouth looked up, a massive hand that had now completely emerged from the Gate was visible. If that was just a hand, how large was the body?

“It appears to be of the Giant race.”

A tribe that had fallen into hell after committing treason by coveting the position of a god. They were also referred to as demons.

“Looking at the size, it seems to be a half-blood. Isn’t that easy for you?”

“Not necessarily. The holy power I consumed since crossing over to Earth has not been returning. Is it not the same for you, Mr. Ian?”

Where does he get off acting so coy? Even excluding holy power, Vermouth was the strongest person in Lancia. To be ranked as the number one powerhouse there meant being an existence that could literally topple mountains and cleave rivers. Still, the fact that holy power did not recover was useful information.

Then that means my power might not have been holy power to begin with.

Ian had no restrictions on using his power since returning to Earth. There were also no cases where used power failed to return. It seemed that Regnasia, the Goddess of War and Love, had not bestowed a capacity upon him, but rather had summoned someone who possessed power from the start.

“Does holy power not work best against demons?”

“So?”

“It seems my power must be restored if I am to deal with the Giants.”

“I don’t want to.”

“Then it cannot be helped. Let us pray that the Earthlings can defeat the Giants on their own.”

I cannot describe how obnoxious Vermouth looked as he smiled brightly.

“You really are a son of a bitch.”

“That is correct. I am your personal son of a bitch.”

“You motherfucker.”

“I always welcome your curses. Because you only give them to me.”

That was only because there was no one else worth cursing. Everyone else besides Vermouth fell within the category of normal people.

“So, what shall we do?”

Ian took a deep breath and grabbed Vermouth by the collar.

“You bastard, you better fight well.”

Soon, Ian’s lips touched Vermouth’s cheek. Vermouth was different from the S-ranks he had seen here. If their power was a lake, Vermouth’s power was like the ocean. Would anyone notice if a few buckets of water were scooped out of the sea? Of course not. Yet, Vermouth’s power was hitting rock bottom for some strange reason.

“What kind of nonsense did you pull?”

“Me? I have simply been faithfully performing my duties as an S-rank Awakened.”

As the man laughed softly, Ian’s hand moved reflexively and slapped him across the cheek.

“Go.”

Vermouth rubbed the cheek where Ian’s hand had touched and wore an ecstatic expression.

“Yes, I shall be off.”

The strongest in Lancia, the first Holy Knight of the Goddess, Dragonslayer, Grand Master, and so on. The being from another world who possessed dozens of titles finally moved. At that moment, the monsters that had been rushing at humans like madmen all ceased their movements.
