The Awakened reacted similarly to that bizarre phenomenon. However, now was the chance while the monsters were faltering. The Awakened who regained their senses quickly began to slaughter the monsters. Yet, in that situation, there was one person acting in the exact opposite manner.

He is watching.

It was Choi Jae-heon, Ian’s brother. Even as the monsters swarmed in, he did not think to attack and instead kept his gaze fixed solely on Ian. Fortunately, other nearby Awakened blocked the monsters, but it was a perilous act.

Ian gave up on ignoring Choi Jae-heon’s piercing gaze. Instead, he raised his hand high and waved it.

“Hyung, behind you! Behind you!”

Only then did Choi Jae-heon turn his head to look at the monsters. At that exact moment, dozens of swarming monsters were flattened as if struck down by a giant hand. Monsters that came running over the flattened corpses quickly filled the space, but the situation did not change. They were killed, killed, and killed again.

Before long, the space in front of Choi Jae-heon was empty. The moment Ian recognized this, a shadow cast over him. As he slowly lifted his head, he saw a familiar yet somehow strange face. Until now, Ian had never seen his brother this angry.

He was not overtly expressing his rage, but it was clear enough. One could tell just how angry Choi Jae-heon was right now. Ian slowly swallowed his saliva and squeezed out his voice.

“First of all.”

How much did Hyung see? Surely he didn’t see the kiss? What if he did? A million thoughts cluttered his mind.

“It is a misunderstanding.”

He couldn’t think of anything else to say. First, it is a misunderstanding. He didn’t know what his brother was thinking, but it was all a misunderstanding. Ian intended to insist on that no matter what Choi Jae-heon said. At that moment, Choi Jae-heon let out a short sigh.

“Choi Ian.”

Ian reflexively straightened his back.

“Yes.”

“You insisted on not evacuating; is this what you wanted to do?”

Choi Jae-heon distorted his face as if in pain. Ian had not wanted to see his brother’s sad face. Because the emotions his brother felt were as vivid as if they could be touched, Ian froze in place.

“Do you like that guy?”

At the following question, Ian tightly gripped his hands, which were slippery with sweat, and shook his head.

“No, I hate him! I really hate him!”

Because he shouted loudly, it seemed Vermouth heard those words. He turned around briefly to look at Ian and wore a dejected expression. However, even if he made such a face, Ian, who knew all of the man’s perverted inner thoughts, did not budge.

“Then why did you do that?”

Choi Jae-heon asked calmly.

“Well.”

Ian lifted a finger and pointed to the sky. A hand that had emerged past the elbow was flailing out of the Gate.

“That thing.”

“What about it?”

Choi Jae-heon did not raise his voice. Yet, why did he feel so scared?

“It is a demon.”

“A demon?”

Choi Jae-heon lifted his head to look at the sky. Indeed, in a world where monsters ran rampant, a demon could certainly appear.

“Demons are weak against holy power.”

“Does that mean we cannot deal damage at all if it isn’t holy power?”

“It is not that, but…”

“Then that guy isn’t strictly necessary, is he?”

Choi Jae-heon did not hide his hostility toward Vermouth. Ian quickly shook his head, fearing the two of them might start a fight.

“Demons are really, really strong. So, a Holy Knight or a Priest is the best for dealing with them. They take less damage and can deal a lot of damage.”

Just as he finished saying that, a voice was heard from in front of Ian.

“Oh, so that is why you kissed that guy?”

It was Hong Seo-yun. No, why was this Hyung here too? While Ian was flustered, Yoon Tae-gyeom also cut in.

“I oppose it.”

“Oppose what?”

“That guy has a terrible personality. Therefore, I strongly oppose him being anything more than someone who once passed through your life.”

He could not leave a guy like that Disney Princess, who caused a fuss over a single bean, by the side of the younger brother he cherished. Ian’s expression became strange as he heard Yoon Tae-gyeom’s supplementary explanation.

“That guy sleeps well anywhere, though?”

It was true. While searching for demons who liked to hide in remote mountain areas, they had camped out often. Every time, Vermouth had slept on the ground without any complaints and stood guard. He had even composed a mishmash porridge made by boiling grain powder and dried jerky.

“That guy did?”

Yoon Tae-gyeom lifted his glasses with his middle finger as if he found it absurd.

“Is he a complete motherfucker?”
