The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 23.2
“Hey, this guy is okay.”
“Really? That is a relief. But I do not think I am going to be okay.”
“Why?”
“Why do you think so?”
It was because Choi Jae-heon had suddenly attacked Vermouth and made a mess of the surroundings. Yoon Tae-gyeom had intended to join in if necessary, but the situation had already ended, leaving nothing but the aftermath to clean up.
“Is it not your specialty!”
“Go die!”
Yoon Tae-gyeom shouted that and glared at Vermouth, who was standing there nonchalantly.
“Was there a need to go this far?”
“My, my, are you not addressing the wrong person? In this situation, I am the victim.”
He was even more obnoxious because his words were not technically wrong. Hong Seo-yun, who was listening to that, even clenched his fists tightly. Fearing that Hong Seo-yun might charge in, Yoon Tae-gyeom swallowed a sigh and held him back.
“Endure it.”
He would throw that guy into dungeons like crazy from now on. Even if he said no, he would harass him by making him walk in on his own two feet. That was the only thing Yoon Tae-gyeom could do right now.
Ian felt relieved seeing his successfully recovered brother, but he also felt puzzled by Vermouth’s behavior. He was not the type to act like that. Why did Vermouth just stand by and watch while Ian made physical contact to save his brother?
Ian was curious about that the entire time. So, before parting with Vermouth, he asked him.
“Why did you stay still?”
“Well, do you not love your family? If he is precious to you, he is precious to me as well.”
Liar. Ian thought that as he looked at the brazen face. However, it was also true that he was able to save his brother because the man had not used his hands ruthlessly. Therefore, just for this once, he decided not to dig into Vermouth’s lie.
Ian left the scene together with his brother.
Vermouth just kept an unreadable expression as he watched Ian and Choi Jae-heon move away.
Why did I leave him alone?
The reason was simple. It was because he felt hesitation within Choi Jae-heon. He is not the type of person to speak honestly even if he realizes he loves Ian. Based on his observations of Choi Jae-heon so far, Vermouth had made that judgment.
If so, would it not be better to make Choi Jae-heon realize his own heart? It was about creating a crack between the dear family members. Driving a wedge was not his specialty, but looking at Choi Jae-heon’s expression, it seemed to have been quite effective.
Would Choi Jae-heon choose to remain as family as expected, or would he sever that bond with his own hands? It seemed the desired result would come out either way. And such thoughts of Vermouth were not wrong.
The Gate floating above the Han River closed, and the people who had evacuated returned. Leaving the anxiety of the past few days behind, peaceful daily life resumed. The same was true for Ian.
But can I really call this peaceful?
Ian thought that as he watched Choi Jae-heon naturally pull his hand away with a smile when their hands touched. Since the moment their lips met to save him, Choi Jae-heon had begun to keep his distance from Ian.
On the surface, he looked the same as usual, but differences were visible in minor things. Every time that happened, it felt as if something was surging up inside his heart.
Did I do something wrong?
The kiss was nothing more than a simple medical act. Someone might consider it an action done for the sake of love, but it was different for Ian. While staying in Lancia for five years, he had desperately tried not to associate this act with emotions. He had to do that to be able to endure.
