The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 26.1
The longer the silence stretched, the heavier the air settled.
“Hyung, we’re family.”
At the words Ian squeezed out, Choi Jae-heon’s lips twisted. It was a self-deprecating laugh.
“Family.”
He leaned in and whispered lowly against Ian’s ear.
“Right. A family without a single drop of shared blood.”
Those words sounded like a death sentence to Ian. Choi Jae-heon had finally dragged out the truth that Ian had tried so hard to ignore and cover up.
“We aren’t blood-related, yet I’m told I can’t even convey my feelings just because we’re ‘family’.”
Choi Jae-heon’s expression crumpled miserably.
“Because you’re my younger brother?”
“…Hyung.”
“Yeah. I thought of you as my brother and cherished you. But that isn’t the entirety of my emotions. I… I like you.”
Choi Jae-heon’s hand wrapped around Ian’s waist and pulled him in. Their solid bodies pressed together without a single gap. Ian could have pushed him away and fled, as Choi Jae-heon wasn’t using his strength against him. However, he couldn’t move. He remained there, frozen as if pinned down by the overwhelming weight of emotion.
“Vermouth kissed you, didn’t he? But you said you hated that man.”
Choi Jae-heon’s gaze fell upon Ian’s lips.
“Then how about with me.”
“……!”
“Want to find out? If I’m better than that bastard.”
Choi Jae-heon lowered his head. His breath tickled Ian as their lips drew closer. And at that moment.
Ding-dong—
The sound of the doorbell shattered the silence.
It was perfect timing, almost as if someone had been waiting. Both of their bodies froze simultaneously. Neither Ian nor Choi Jae-heon answered the bell. Yet, the visitor had no intention of leaving. The bell rang again.
Ding-dong—
Choi Jae-heon let out a low sigh. Only then was Ian able to snap back to his senses. He broke away from Choi Jae-heon and quickly approached the intercom, picking up the receiver.
“Who is it?”
As he spoke and looked at the screen, the visitor looked up and stared into the camera. A man with brilliant blonde hair was shining radiantly, possessing an unrealistic beauty that looked as if he had stepped right out of a holy painting.
[Are you okay?]
The voice coming through the intercom was chillingly gentle and polite.
[It is a night graced by the Goddess’s protection. I apologize for the discourtesy of such a late hour, but.]
It was Vermouth.
He was smiling elegantly, like a noble out for a stroll to a neighbor’s house.
[Mr. Ian, are you perhaps in a difficult situation?]
It was impossible to tell what “difficult situation” Vermouth was referring to—whether he meant the commotion caused by the swarming reporters, or the older brother harboring feelings and lunging at his younger brother.
‘No, it couldn’t be the latter.’
No matter how great Vermouth was, how could he know what was happening inside the house? The Goddess Regnasia was not here right now.
[Would you please open the door?]
Despite that, the doubt that had once surfaced would not disappear. Ian took a short breath and spoke.
“Get lost.”
He was about to hang up the receiver when Choi Jae-heon grabbed him.
“Why did he come here again?”
[Ah, it is the older brother. I have come to apologize to Mr. Ian for the matters I have caused.]
At those words, Choi Jae-heon’s rationality snapped. To apologize after intentionally causing this situation in the first place? Furthermore, wasn’t this just a ploy to see Ian again?
“You son of a bitch!”
Choi Jae-heon slammed the receiver down and breathed raggedly. His hand reached out toward the air, and the intercom on the living room wall crumpled hideously under an invisible force.
Only then did Vermouth’s loathsome voice cut off.
“…Finally.”
Even so, Choi Jae-heon’s anger did not subside as he continued to breathe heavily.
“Hyung.”
It was Ian’s first time seeing Choi Jae-heon lose control of his emotions to this extent. Ian approached him hesitantly. However, he would not meet Ian’s eyes.
“Go to your room. Do not come out.”
“Hyung?”
“Listen to me. I’m going to kill that bastard.”
Choi Jae-heon didn’t even grab his coat before striding toward the entrance. With every step he took, the floorboards shrieked as if they were about to crack.
Slam.
Ian tried to follow Choi Jae-heon out to the yard, but the door shut right in front of his face.
“Hyung! Hyung!”
Ian pounded on the door, calling out for Choi Jae-heon. He tried to open it, but the door wouldn’t budge.
“Haa.”
It was obvious what was about to happen, and he couldn’t just hide here alone. Ian went to the dining table and grabbed a chair. When he struck the door with it, it creaked and swung open.
CiciDonuts
Bro said he wanted to respect Ian’s feelings and not confess is romantic intentions, but he ends up doing it out pure jealousy….
