The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 26.2
‘It is because they only think of me as being fragile.’
Perhaps that was why. Beyond Choi Jae-heon, who stood at the open gate, Vermouth came into view. He stood there elegantly with a bouquet of flowers, the moonlight at his back.
“Have you come out? By the way, you seem agitated; did something bad happen?”
Kwang!
Choi Jae-heon’s telekinesis struck the wall next to Vermouth. A large hole was gouged into the concrete. However, Vermouth did not even blink, maintaining his picture-perfect smile.
“The bad thing is about to happen now. To you.”
Choi Jae-heon’s eyes burned with a deep blue light.
“Stop targeting someone else’s brother and get lost. You son of a bitch who is worse than a dog.”
In that brief moment, Vermouth’s status in Choi Jae-heon’s mind had dropped from a ‘dog’ to something even lower.
“Ah, is he still just a ‘brother’? That is a relief.”
Vermouth smiled deeply. He stared at Choi Jae-heon and opened his mouth slowly.
“If possible, I would prefer it if you remained immersed in playing family for the rest of your life.”
How could he pick only the words most guaranteed to make someone angry?
A blue haze of psychokinetic energy rose from Choi Jae-heon’s entire body. He looked ready to wring Vermouth’s neck at any second.
“Leave. You will never be able to meet Ian again.”
“I heard that family permission is usually important for a marriage. This has become quite a predicament.”
It was a blatant provocation. It was a ploy to snap Choi Jae-heon’s rationality by flaunting his relationship with Ian.
“Do not make me say it twice. Stop talking nonsense and get lost.”
As if troubled, Vermouth sighed, his eyebrows drooping slightly.
“My, this really is a predicament.”
“If it’s a predicament, then get lost.”
“I wish to see Mr. Ian, but since Hyung is being so stubborn.”
Vermouth reached into his coat. Choi Jae-heon immediately took a defensive stance. He assumed a weapon was being drawn. However, what was held in Vermouth’s hand was no ordinary weapon.
It was a ceremonial silver dagger issued to Holy Knights. A sharp, beautiful blade encrusted with brilliant jewels.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
It happened the moment Choi Jae-heon furrowed his brow.
Pu-uk!
There was neither hesitation nor a preliminary movement.
Vermouth drove the dagger he was holding directly into the left side of his own chest, just above the heart.
“……!”
Choi Jae-heon’s eyes widened.
Dark red blood instantly soaked the white clothes. Thick, crimson gore trailed down, staining the concrete floor.
“Cough.”
Vermouth coughed up blood. Even as the red liquid flowed from the corners of his mouth, his expression remained chillingly serene. No, he even looked holy. He did not even stagger; with the blade still embedded in his chest, his eyes curved into a soft smile.
“Saint. I am hurt.”
With a blood-stained hand, Vermouth readjusted his grip on the red bouquet. His blood flowed down and drenched the flowers. Yet, because the blossoms were already red, it was impossible to distinguish what was flower and what was blood.
A madman.
Ian stared at Vermouth with a disgusted expression. For a brief second, their gazes seemed to meet.
“At this rate, I shall die soon.”
Ian felt like leaving him to his fate, but doing so left a bitter taste in his mouth. Suppressing the urge to click his tongue, Ian placed a hand on his brother’s back.
“Hyung, just a moment.”
This was blackmail. The dirtiest and most cowardly form of blackmail, using one’s own life as collateral. Yet, it was also the most effective method. Because Ian was a healer. Having spent his life saving people, he could not stand by and watch someone get hurt. Even if that person was Vermouth.
Choi Jae-heon gritted his teeth but had no choice but to step aside.
“I like this human side of yours.”
Even while coughing and spitting up blood, he was saying everything he wanted to say.
“You really are a remarkably creative piece of shit.”
Ian spat out a curse and grabbed the hem of Vermouth’s clothes with trembling hands. As he applied pressure, Vermouth naturally leaned his body against him.
Following that, a white hand touched the chest area, and a brilliant light burst forth.
“Hahaha.”
Vermouth raised a bloodied hand and cupped Ian’s cheek. Blood smeared onto the skin, but neither he nor Ian paid it any mind.
“I feel quite happy right now.”
He looked at Ian with the most ecstatic expression in the world, as if he couldn’t feel any pain at all.
“…Ha. Blood is splattering, so shut your mouth! You pervert.”
Even when Ian scolded him, Vermouth only continued to beam. That sight set a fire in Choi Jae-heon’s chest. Watching the familiar sight of the two of them, he clenched his fists tightly. His fingernails dug into his palms, but he didn’t even feel the pain.
At this very moment, Ian’s attention was directed toward Vermouth, not Choi Jae-heon.
It was a total defeat.
