It was at that point that Vermouth spoke up.

“To be precise, they are likely ‘remnant soldiers’ rather than an invasion force.”

It was Vermouth who broke the heavy silence. He spoke in a low voice as he set down his teacup.

“Remnant soldiers?”

“Yes. After the Demon King died in Lancia, the demonic army was annihilated. They lost their place to stand. They are refugees who have fled to this world by squeezing through the cracks in the dimensions to survive. It seems they sent a portion of the demonic race ahead to scout Earth for that purpose.”

“Of all the places, why did they have to come here?” Ian said with a bitter expression.

“Indeed. However, from their perspective, it might be a disaster. Because we are in the territory they newly selected.”

“But there are only two of us?”

“Are those two not you, the Saint, and I, the Strongest Paladin? Naturally, they would be afraid.”

Ian could not keep up with Vermouth’s level of confidence. However, on some level, it was understandable. Back in Lancia, how many titles had been attached to Vermouth? There, it was a custom to bestow special titles upon those who were strong or who achieved new records.

“So, will those demonic bastards really try to invade Earth?”

“We will find out soon enough.”

Vermouth shrugged his shoulders. It was a bit awkward due to the missing arm, but there was no problem understanding the gesture.

“However, I believe the probability of them choosing invasion is high.”

“Why?”

“No matter how terrifying the opponent, are there not only two of us? There will be those who indulge in delusions without knowing their place. Since there are only two of us, and the Saint lacks combat abilities.”

One shouldn’t judge Vermouth based merely on head count, but it was a plausible theory.

“If they eliminate us, their most threatening natural enemies, right now, this world will become a safe paradise for them. Since some of those Shadow Stalkers survived and fled yesterday, perhaps they might even try to hunt us down.”

The air in the room sank heavily.

A cornered rat is known to bite a cat. Furthermore, those things were not simple rats. They were the cruel and merciless demonic race that had barely been driven out of Lancia. If the ones that escaped alive informed their kin of the existence of Ian and Vermouth, they would begin to move in earnest.

“That is troublesome. We will have to be careful. Just look at this incident. If the demonic race can artificially open sudden gates and interfere with other gates in the future, we are the ones in trouble. Plus, we have to protect Ian.”

Yoon Tae-gyeom adjusted his glasses and looked at Ian.

“They might obsessively target your life while they are in a frenzy.”

Choi Jae-heon’s expression turned grim. The fork he was holding in his hand bent. As someone who did not want Ian to be in danger, he found it unpleasant that such things kept happening. If it were up to him, he wanted to hide Ian in a safe place and lock him away so he couldn’t come out.

“Let’s think rationally for a moment,” Yoon Tae-gyeom said calmly.

“You’re saying Ian might become a target. This isn’t a problem that will be solved just by avoiding it. Besides, Ian is the only one who can detoxify their poison. You saw it during the Chuncheon incident yesterday, didn’t you? Even A-class healers couldn’t touch it.”

“There are also Buffers who specialize in purification.”

“There are not many in the country.”

“Then I will help!”

Ian raised his hand slightly. Seeing that, Choi Jae-heon’s expression became even more menacing.

“I can step forward. Wide-area treatment is my specialty.”

“It is dangerous.”

Choi Jae-heon said firmly.

“It’s fine. Other people can just protect me.”

“Of course. I will always protect Mr. Ian.”

“You recover your arm first.”

“Even with one arm missing, there is no problem with my movement.”

He truly was a natural when it came to using his body. Normally, it is only natural to find it difficult to control one’s body after losing a limb.

“No. It is still too dangerous.”

Choi Jae-heon cut off Ian’s opinion sharply. His appearance as he spoke without even looking was resolute.

“Hyung, listen to what I’m saying. Ordinary healers can’t fix their poison. If I’m not there, the damage to the Awakened will only grow.”

“I said no. Why would you get involved there? You just stay hidden quietly.”

Choi Jae-heon’s voice rose.

“It doesn’t matter for Vermouth because his combat ability is outstanding. But you are different. What do you plan to do when you don’t even have the ability to defend yourself? That is a suicidal act.”

“I can fight too! Even in Lancia, I saved people in the middle of a battlefield! I survived even after going all the way to the front of the Demon King’s Castle!”

Ian shouted as if he were frustrated.
