The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 40.2
“Hey, h-hey, don’t push!”
The scouters could do nothing but groan and lament as they were forced to step aside. When an S-class hunter—and the strongest psychokinetic at that—determinedly cleared a path, there was no way to resist.
Choi Jae-heon led Ian out of the Management Bureau’s main entrance as leisurely as a general returning in triumph.
A few days later.
In front of a C-rank gate on the outskirts of Seoul managed by the Stigma Guild. The expressions of Stigma’s Elite Team 2 as they stepped out of the black van were as dark as cattle being led to a slaughterhouse.
“Whew.”
Team Leader Park Min-seok, who served as the Tanker, felt as if he were suffocating. With trembling hands, he repeatedly adjusted his shield for no reason. A mere C-rank dungeon was a place they would normally clear while yawning. However, today it felt more terrifying than an S-rank dungeon. The reason was the VIP observers standing behind them.
There was Guild Leader Choi Jae-heon, watching with hawk-like eyes while his arms were crossed.
And beside him stood Vermouth El Di Loxtian, the S-class monster who had recently appeared like a comet, wearing a chilly smile. Between them stood the protagonist of the day, South Korea’s first S-class healer, Choi Ian.
“Today’s mission is simple,” Choi Jae-heon began. His low, heavy voice struck the eardrums of the team members.
“A new healer has joined our guild. Therefore, we are observing to help him adjust to the gates. You all will handle the entirety of the combat. I would prefer it if there were no reason for the healer to step forward today.”
Choi Jae-heon’s eyes shone coldly. Small pebbles in the vicinity reacted to his psychokinesis, floating into the air before falling back down.
‘I heard the Guild Leader dotes on his brother, but this is…’
Park Min-seok suppressed the urge to sigh once more. If it were Team 1, who usually accompanied Choi Jae-heon, things might have been a bit better. However, Team 2 was a team that ran relatively lower-ranked dungeons. Being surrounded by S-classes made them incredibly nervous.
“We will not make a mistake!”
“I shall look forward to it.”
“Yes!”
Everyone spoke in voices stiff with military-like discipline.
An S-class healer. He was a walking national treasure and a precious individual who held their lifelines. Absolutely nothing must go wrong to the point of affecting the esteemed healer due to a mistake. Thus, they tried to shake off their nerves and prepared to enter the gate. Ian bowed politely to them.
“Hello. I look forward to working with you.”
“A-ah, not at all! We are the ones looking forward to it! Please, speak comfortably to us! No, you may even speak down to us!”
Park Min-seok bowed his waist at a 90-degree angle. Ian found the excessive courtesy burdensome but laughed it off awkwardly.
The entry into the gate begins.
As they crossed the entrance and stepped inside, the smell of damp mold hit them along with the cry of an unknown beast from far away.
Grrrr.
That day, Stigma’s Elite Team 2 fought desperately. Monsters were crumbled by them before they could even enter Ian’s field of vision.
“Front clear! Moving to the next sector!”
“Flank clear! No approach permitted!”
The monsters were cleared out in an instant. As expected of Stigma’s elites, their skills were certain. Ian simply walked slowly behind them, looking around at his surroundings.
‘Hyung seems to worry a lot, but…’
Ian swallowed a dry laugh internally.
The musty smell, the damp ground, and the bizarre screams of monsters. To an ordinary person, the atmosphere was certainly a bit overwhelming, but it was not comparable to Lancia. Considering the things the demonic race had done there, this place felt like a well-managed theme park.
There was no demonic energy piercing the skin, nor was there a murderous aura that made his spine go cold. The movements of the monsters were sluggish, and their patterns were simple.
‘It really is different.’
Ian felt a sense of relief. At this rate, he felt he could adjust without any trouble. It didn’t even seem necessary for him to step up and do anything.
Thus, the gate experience ended uneventfully. Looking at Ian’s attire, which didn’t have a speck of dust on it, Choi Jae-heon nodded with satisfaction.
“Good. How was the atmosphere?”
“Hmm.”
Ian whispered softly while watching the others celebrate the perfect gate clear.
“It was manageable.”
“I see.”
Choi Jae-heon stroked Ian’s head with an unreadable expression. Usually, such a reaction couldn’t come from someone entering a gate for the first time. Just what kind of hell was Lancia? Why couldn’t he protect Ian in that hell?
“Then, let us go perform the real verification now.”
After blaming himself for a moment, he belatedly changed the subject.
“Real verification?”
When Ian asked in confusion, Choi Jae-heon let out a smirk.
“What is a healer’s profession? It is healing. It’s not about fighting in a dungeon.”
Hearing that, it made sense.
MissOmu
I wonder if S-Class gates are more similar to Lancia? If not, then no wonder Vermouth has been bodying everything and everyone. He was already strong in Lancia.
