The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 41.1
[Hunter Hospital Under the Administration Bureau]
This massive hospital, located on the outskirts of Seoul, was a place where access for ordinary people was strictly controlled.
Only awakened beings—specifically those who had suffered serious injuries during gate raids or monster subjugations—could seek treatment here. This was because wounds caused by monsters were either impossible to treat with conventional medicine or had a significantly slow recovery rate.
As Choi Jae-heon’s car entered the main gate of the hospital, the hospital director and medical staff, who had been notified in advance, were lined up in formation. Even the leader of the nation’s top guild wouldn’t receive such a reception. It seemed they were very curious about the S-rank healer.
“Welcome!”
The white-haired hospital director bowed deeply. Choi Jae-heon lowered his head in return and then got straight to the point.
“Where is the patient in the most serious condition?”
“Yes, we have prepared for treatment. I will guide you.”
“Let’s go, Ian.”
Choi Jae-heon’s footsteps were relentless. Ian followed closely behind his brother’s back, glancing around the interior of the hospital. Along with the smell of disinfectant, he could sense the faint lingering traces of mana. Throughout the hallways, he saw awakened individuals wrapped in bandages or in wheelchairs. Their eyes were all filled with a mixture of pain and resignation.
‘It’s better than the field hospitals in Lancia, though.’
Ian thought bitterly. The scent of injured and sick people was similar everywhere.
The place they arrived at was a special intensive care unit located deep inside the hospital. Through the glass wall, a man could be seen lying on a bed. Various tubes were inserted all over his body, and his right leg, in particular, was twisted so grotesquely that it was hard to recognize its shape.
“He was attacked by the A-rank gate boss, the Red-Headed Ogre. We are following the treatment procedures step-by-step while trying various methods.”
The doctor in charge, who had followed them, explained while looking at a chart. His expression was dark.
“His leg was crushed by the ogre’s club. It wasn’t just a simple fracture; the bones were practically turned to powder, and the muscles and nerves were completely severed. Because of that, healing magic alone couldn’t resolve it, so he has undergone several surgeries.”
“What are the chances of recovery?”
“To be honest, we are holding on somehow, but I believe amputation would be better. We have a healer assigned to him, but the most they can do is delay the necrosis.”
General monsters and bosses of high-rank gates are different. Even for the same type of wound, an injury inflicted by a boss is much harder to recover from. Those in the industry judged that this was due to a unique characteristic possessed only by bosses.
“We have named that characteristic ‘mana’.”
It is similar to demonic energy yet different in nature. It is a bizarre power, but it lacks the persistent and thick darkness found in demonic energy. Still, it was problematic in many ways because it made treatment difficult.
At the doctor’s words, the air inside the hospital room sank heavily. Beside the bed, a woman who appeared to be the patient’s family member was weeping silently.
“Ian.”
Choi Jae-heon called his younger brother in a low voice.
“Can you do it?”
Ian stared intently at the patient.
It was a horrific injury. By Earth’s standards, it would be nothing short of ‘hopeless.’ However, it looked different in Ian’s eyes.
He had seen countless sights worse than this in Lancia. Severed limbs were a common occurrence, and he had even saved soldiers whose internal organs were spilling out. That level of contamination and physical damage was not a particularly difficult task for him.
‘This is what Hyung wants to see.’
If the goal was to confirm the ability to save people rather than simply clearing dungeons, this method would be the best. Ian nodded and opened the door to the hospital room.
“I’ll go in.”
The medical staff tried to stop him in a panic, but they slunk back at a single glance from Choi Jae-heon. Ian approached the bedside. Seeing the condition up close, it was even more disastrous. Despite being injected with sedatives due to the pain, the patient was groaning and breaking out in a cold sweat.
“…It hurts.”
Ian carefully placed his hand on the patient’s leg.
A warm heat was transmitted.
‘For something like this, a simple treatment is all that’s needed.’
How many times had he brought back people who were dying? This much was not difficult. Just the most basic healing magic that any healer could perform. That alone was enough.
No words were necessary. A soft golden light flowing from Ian’s fingertips embraced the broken body. It wasn’t flashy, but it was a subtle and warm light.
However, the effect was by no means ordinary.
Crack—
Along with a gruesome sound, the twisted leg began to find its proper place.
The bones that had been turned to powder pulled together as if drawn by a magnet, and the severed blood vessels and nerves wove back together like a spool of thread. The skin that had been turning black regained its vivid crimson vitality in an instant.
“Huh? Uh, uhhh!”
Beyond the glass window, the eyes of the doctor in charge widened as if they were about to pop out. The hand holding the chart trembled violently.
