The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 49.2
Yoon Tae-gyeom spoke with a weary expression. It was because he knew that even if they continued the training, the situation would not change much from how it was now. Thus, everyone exited the gate.
“Mmm.”
Ian stretched while breathing in the fresh air outside. At that moment, the phone he had received back began to vibrate like crazy. Simultaneously, the gate danger warning blared noisily. The same was true for the phones of Yoon Tae-gyeom and Choi Jae-heon.
“What is happening?”
Choi Jae-heon checked his phone with a face that was frozen cold. Yoon Tae-gyeom seemed to have called the Bureau directly.
“It is an emergency! Sudden gates have occurred simultaneously in various parts of the country, including Seoul! Moreover, it is an abnormal wavelength that has never existed before!”
“Gates opened simultaneously across the nation?”
Yoon Tae-gyeom’s eyes narrowed. No matter how frequent gate occurrences were in this era, gates opening simultaneously on a national scale was unprecedented in history. Could this really be seen as a coincidence?
“My, it seems something dangerous has occurred. This concerns an ally, so I cannot ignore it.”
Alexander gave a sly smile and slung his hammer over his shoulder.
“We would be grateful if you could help.”
Even if he was a buffoon, he was still the guild leader of the great Empire Guild. If help was offered, it was only right to accept it. Yoon Tae-gyeom took them all and headed straight to the Bureau. In this situation, it was safer for Ian to move with them as well.
“Something is strange.”
Vermouth whispered into Ian’s ear.
“Something like this happened once in that place in the past as well.”
At those words, Ian looked back at Vermouth.
“First, scouting; then, infiltration. Usually, the goal is the assassination of a key figure. Perhaps.”
‘We might be the targets.’ Ian felt he knew the words Vermouth had left out. The demon they had let live last time was bothersome. A foul and ominous premonition scratched vividly against his skin.
***
A pitch black space that clung like the reverse side of the ordinary and everyday spaces of Earth.
In that place where not a single point of light reached, damp and sticky demonic energy swirled like a massive swamp. Breaking through that murky darkness, shadows of bizarrely distorted forms gathered one by one, murmuring.
“I saw them. I saw them clearly with my own two eyes. It was definitely those two.”
A bizarre and hair raising voice, like fingernails scratching against a steel plate, sliced through the air. It was the Shadow Stalker, the demon who had lost a part of its torso to Vermouth’s aura while targeting Ian’s life on Earth recently. Having barely escaped annihilation and fled, it swallowed its fear and passed its memories to its comrades.
[The loathsome Saint who dyed the battlefields of Lancia with horrific light. And that white knight who slaughtered our kin and tore through our flesh without a moment of hesitation. Those two monsters are breathing freely in this world!]
“Grrr, are you certain? If it is a lie, I will tear your soul apart this instant! Why would those bastards from Lancia exist here across dimensions!”
“It is not a lie! I saw and felt it personally! I felt that horrific and dazzling Divine Power that burned away our very essence!”
At the Shadow Stalker’s shout of conviction, the red eyes of dozens of gathered demons flashed fiercely in the darkness all at once.
They were not low level monsters simply craving blood and slaughter. They were an advanced party and scouting team with distinct intelligence, sent secretly to perfectly invade and conquer this blue planet.
Unlike Lancia, which they considered horrific, Earth had no blind faith toward a god. Even if it did, God did not pay the price for it. Therefore, one could not see priests or paladins who used Divine Power. There were those who handled abilities, but they were manageable as long as it was not Divine Power.
It was an incredibly sweet prey, perfectly suited for defeated fugitives to invade. However, the fact that the predator they feared most was lurking in the middle of that coveted hunting ground was enough to flip the board.
“We must kill those two! If we only kill them.”
“We can have Earth in our hands.”
“Is that truly the case?”
Someone raised a question.
“What if another human crosses over from Lancia?”
“That is impossible. Traveling between dimensions is a difficult task for humans. They belong to the Middle Realm.”
Even the demons had paid a great sacrifice to move their army this far. There was no way humans, who cherished the lives of their own kind, would use the same method.
“So, those two are everything.”
If that was the case, the story changed.
