The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 54.2

The commotion of the sudden Gates that had driven the entire nation into terror came to a temporary halt. Thanks to the Empire Guild’s unconventional sharing of information and the Vatican’s promise to supply Holy Water, the world seemed to be regaining its stability. Of course, as a price for this, the Korean Management Bureau had agreed to hand over various classified information and Gate samples to Alexander.
“Ian, I have good news.”
Inside the returning vehicle, Choi Jae-heon spoke in a soft voice. Ian, who had been staring blankly out the window, turned his head.
“What news?”
“You can return to the house where you originally lived now. The entire surrounding area is privately owned land, so I have blocked off access. There won’t be any more reporters making a fuss. So, let’s go home. You can’t keep borrowing Hong Seo-yun’s place forever.”
“That is true.”
However, even though the relationship with his brother, Choi Jae-heon, seemed to have been restored, a sense of unease remained. Would he be able to return home and live with him alone just like before?
‘No, I have to live there!’
Because they were family. Furthermore, he felt sorry about continuing to be a burden to Hong Seo-yun. Though Seo-yun had always been wealthy, receiving one-sided help felt like a burden.
“Yes, let’s go back.”
And the target of his apologies was not just Hong Seo-yun. Instead of saying he was sorry this time, Ian told Choi Jae-heon thank you. He felt that would be better.
“Thank you, Hyung.”
“You’re welcome.”
“But what about the luggage?”
“We can hire people to bring it. After all, the things in the original house are still there.”
“I suppose so.”
The car, which had been driving for a long time, soon came to a stop in front of Ian’s house.
“See? There’s no one here, right?”
“It really is true.”
The sight of the reporters who had gathered so tenaciously was like an illusion; the front of the house was quiet.
“Patrols are also circulating nearby just in case, so don’t worry.”
Choi Jae-heon said as much and dropped Ian off in front of the house.
“What about you, Hyung?”
“I still have some business left to take care of.”
As he said this, Choi Jae-heon tried to snatch at Vermouth, who was attempting to follow Ian. However, was Vermouth the type of person to be easily caught? He slipped out of Choi Jae-heon’s grasp and stepped toward Ian.
“It’s time for you to go too.”
Ian gave a light wave to Vermouth.
“Do I have to go as well?”
“Of course. Where did you say you were staying here?”
“I am currently staying at a hotel.”
“Any plans to get a house?”
“Is a house necessary?”
As he asked, he stared at Ian’s house.
“It is necessary. We need a bit of distance.”
“Why? Did you not accept me? I cannot understand why we must live separately.”
Surprise and questioning appeared simultaneously in Vermouth’s purple eyes. In Lancia, he would have acted even more selfishly. Ian let out a sigh and lightly pushed Vermouth’s chest away with his palm.
“Vermouth. About us. How about we try starting normally from the beginning this time?”
“Normally?”
“Yes. Meeting and greeting each other, eating together, watching movies, and going shopping. Let’s get to know each other slowly. Neither you nor I ever had a proper conversation back in Lancia.”
Even if they had, it was only about how to crush the demons. Ian had never fully opened his heart to Vermouth, who had tried to keep him trapped in Lancia. And the same was true for Vermouth.
“Always fighting, imprisoning, or running away. Instead of those things, let’s try something else now.”
Vermouth did not fully understand the words Ian was uttering. However, he glimpsed the sincerity within Ian’s speech. Therefore, he had no choice but to follow his will for the time being.
“I understand. If that is what you wish.”
In that way, Vermouth yielded to Ian’s stubbornness. Ian found that side of the knight somewhat cute and admirable, so he stood on his tiptoes and gave him a short kiss on the cheek. In truth, there was a bit of intention behind it.
“Good boy. See you tomorrow.”
Ending with those words, Ian slipped into the house and locked the door. Left alone in front of the entrance, Vermouth touched his cheek blankly. It was a more intense shock than the thousands of life and death struggles he had experienced in Lancia. He stood there for a long time before raising his head.
Choi Jae-heon was glaring at Vermouth with an expression as if he wanted to kill him, but Vermouth did not care. He left the spot feeling as if he were walking through a dream. Everything felt like a fantasy.
