The Villain’s Aide Has Run Away - Chapter 106.1
Leslun, trembling, reached out and grabbed Kailos’s wrist.
“…No.”
Even his voice was shaking.
Kailos’s brows twitched. His eyes, already hazy as if intoxicated, showed no sign of backing down. His fingers tightened around Leslun’s waist.
“Is it because you don’t like the place?”
“That’s not it. It’s just…”
Leslun caught his breath and shook his head.
“That’s enough for today…”
Silence fell. The light from the bookshelf stretched their shadows across the floor. Kailos’s warm breath brushed against Leslun’s face, and after a long exhale, his arm dropped.
“If that’s what you want, I suppose I can’t do anything.”
His tone carried clear regret. Leslun’s heart softened at the honest expression on Kailos’s face.
But Kailos hadn’t given up completely. Deep in his eyes, the fire still flickered.
Leslun steadied himself and pressed his lips softly against Kailos’s cheek.
Kailos froze, speechless, and Leslun whispered with an apologetic look.
“I didn’t refuse because I disliked it.”
Leslun closed his lips tightly, his expression flustered.
“I like it… but we shouldn’t do this here.”
“Those words don’t seem very appropriate for this situation.”
Kailos had just barely calmed down, yet Leslun kept saying such sweet things. He shook his head in disbelief.
“If it’s somewhere private, with just the two of us…”
Feeling his face heat up, Leslun trailed off before summoning the courage to whisper into Kailos’s ear.
“Does that mean I’ll get a reward for being good?”
Kailos stared at him for a long moment, then gently took his hand and guided him away.

The commander of the Shadow Corps hid in the darkness, observing the two.
His original plan was to capture Leslun, use him as a sacrifice for the ritual, and make an example of him. But what he had just witnessed made him reconsider.
“So, have you changed your mind?”
It was Brian, standing beside him.
“Yes. He’s too valuable to use so simply.”
Killing him now would be a waste.
“And besides…”
At that moment, the commander’s gaze sharpened, and Brian suddenly choked as if his throat were being crushed, collapsing forward.
“Kh… kgh…!”
He clutched at his neck, gasping in pain.
“S… save…”
The commander’s voice was cold.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“T… tell you what… khk…”
“The drug.”
Brian’s flushed face stiffened in terror.
“He took the drug, didn’t he?”
The commander folded his hands behind his back, as if already knowing everything.
“It wasn’t… on purpose…”
Brian flailed weakly, trembling as he tried to explain. Just as he reached his limit, his breath returned. He coughed weakly.
“Cough… cough…”
While Brian coughed on the floor, the commander muttered to himself.
“A drug that only reacts to a few people… and yet it worked on that insignificant boy…”
A new possibility began to form in his mind.
“So, we’ve found the perfect way to turn the Crown Prince’s attention.”
Instead of forcing him to stay, making him run away by his own will would be an even tighter shackle.
He took a thin black stone tablet from his pocket, carved with mysterious symbols. It was meant to come in pairs, yet only one piece remained.
Brian’s eyes darted to the object nervously.
“What are you planning to do?”
He recognized what it was, though he didn’t understand why it was being used now.
“This is finally a chance to connect with the Guardian Spirit.”
The tablet would only activate under certain conditions and had never been used before.
“With that boy, it might finally awaken.”
It was a device that forcefully opened a link with the Guardian Spirit’s leyline.
Even without ascending to the throne, it could borrow the Spirit’s power.
“But… would that really be good for us?”
Brian still couldn’t grasp it. Wouldn’t such a connection only benefit them?
The commander’s expression turned knowing as he looked toward where Leslun and the Crown Prince were.
“We’ll see soon enough.”
Though for Leslun, it would be a fatal poison.
A cruel glint appeared in the commander’s eyes.

The next day, the librarian came to Leslun, apologizing that she hadn’t returned to the library the night before due to an unexpected accident. Along with the apology, she handed him an envelope containing the address of the former librarian—and a small black tablet inside.
It looked unusual. Leslun examined it curiously.
“What’s this?”
He had never seen such an object before. Though he wanted to inspect it more closely, he quickly wrapped it in a handkerchief and tucked it into his pocket.
“I’ll stop by right after class. I have to be back in the Imperial Palace before sunset.”
He still had unfinished words to exchange with Kailos from the night before.
