Leslun was breathing heavily, but he kept moving his legs.

The forest was dark, and the ground was soaked and muddy from the rain. It felt as if Kailos could grab his neck at any moment.

He had to get out of here to have any hope for what came next. Kailos was not someone he could afford to be careless around.

He must not be caught by him…

“Running away from me. Is this all you can do?”

Leslun, unable to continue, finally stopped. A voice sharp as a blade called him again.

He almost turned reflexively, but he forced himself to hold back.

Instead, he swallowed hard and focused on looking forward, starting to run again. Even as he ran, he was practically dragging his feet.

Although he had enjoyed a good life as the Crown Prince’s aide, his body was weak by nature. Leslun’s stamina had reached its limit.

Even so, he believed that escaping from this place was all he could do. He hesitated not at all.

“Leslun!”

The call grew closer. Even through the pounding rain, his voice could be clearly heard.

The sound of footsteps squelching in the mud grew louder as Kailos was running toward him.

Had he really been someone who could run like that? He had always seemed so composed and relaxed.

It was only a brief moment to misjudge him.

Suddenly, a wild animal crossed Leslun’s field of vision.

“Ugh!”

He froze reflexively, and the foot he had planted sank deep into a muddy puddle. He staggered, losing his balance.

A hand shot out desperately toward his small body as it leaned forward. Soon, Leslun’s arm was caught in a strong grip.

It was too late to stop his fall.

By the time he regained his senses, he was already rolling on the ground. Yet he did not feel pain.

“Ah…! Your Highness!”

Leslun looked at the one who had fallen with him, holding him in his arms. His fine clothes, a mark of his status, were now ruined by mud and rain.

He could not lift his head because one arm was clutched tightly. Had he been hurt while holding Leslun?

“A-are you alright?”

“…Caught you.”

Before Leslun could run again, Kailos had hastily enclosed him in his arms. He did not seem to care that his clothes would get even dirtier.

The warmth of his caring embrace against the cold wind made Leslun choke up.

It felt as if he had fallen into a perfectly set trap. Leslun could not move at all.

“You are the first to do this to me.”

Though he said it lightly, his voice carried deep relief.

He had been captured again.

It was fortunate that he had not been hurt. If he had been injured, Leslun could not have forgiven himself.

Kailos looked down at Leslun in his arms and brushed his cheek. His touch, wet from the rain, was ineffective. Tears mixed with the raindrops on Leslun’s face.

“My heart is racing. Did you miss me while running away?”

The voice was cruelly deep and intense. Leslun’s spine shivered.

Kailos lifted Leslun’s chin, which kept dropping down.

“Huuh… Kail.”

His legs had stopped, but his tears would not.

“Running away from me and now calling my name like this.”

Rainwater ran down Kailos’s pale skin. Leslun could see the glistening eyes under his damp lashes and the pitifully upturned corners of his mouth.

“If that is something you say just to please me… my aide is clever after all.”

A joke in this situation. Who would dare call this man the ultimate villain?

“But I want to run away.”

“Do you dislike me, or do you just want to play hide-and-seek?”

It was a piercing question. He could see right through Leslun’s hesitation.

“I think we chose the wrong day for hide-and-seek between lovers. Let’s pick another day and try again.”

Kailos spoke as if to forgive all of Leslun’s “crimes.”

Then he lifted Leslun into his arms. His feet, stuck in the mud, slipped out easily.

Instead of pushing him away, Leslun wrapped his arms around Kailos’s neck, clinging as if to hold on. Their bodies pressed together once again.

Leslun buried his face in Kailos’s nape, instinctively as he had done before.

“You really are wise.”

Kailos kissed the corner of Leslun’s eyes as if praising him for doing well.

Silber, who had been circling above them, quietly watched the two before flying off toward the Kingdom of Vancor.
