The Villain’s Aide Has Run Away - Chapter 116.2
“Your Highness, Father…”
When he woke up, Prince Cassian felt the small furry creature rubbing against him. It felt like a nudge telling him to get up immediately.
He wanted to stay lying down, but he was curious what the little animal wanted to say. Following the shadow of the animal with a dazed mind, he found himself outside.
And he saw something he should not have.
Terrified, Cassian wished someone would hold him. But in this vast and large imperial city, there was no one to do so.
Even the nanny prioritized the Empress’s instructions above all else.
A small cat approached Cassian. Around the cat, small birds were flying.
[Are you scared?]
Cassian’s face showed surprise that Blue, the guardian spirit, was speaking to him. Then he faintly smiled at the bird whose injuries he had treated.
Soon, the child nodded seriously.
“I am scared.”
[The Empress seems to want to make you Emperor. How can you do that if you are so timid?]
Cassian shook his head.
“No. I do not want to be Emperor or anything like that.”
His voice was quiet. He had neither the confidence nor the desire to ascend the throne. That position was suitable for his older brother.
But he lacked the courage to reveal such thoughts to the Empress.
[Then will you just stay hidden like this?]
Blue calmly looked at Cassian.
It was not his role to tell him exactly what to do here. Blue hoped the boy would see into his own heart.
If Cassian allowed the Empress’s actions, Blue would respect that choice as well.
Blue was a spirit born to protect the empire. As long as the empire did not collapse, he only needed to observe what was happening now.
Cassian pondered Blue’s words, debating whether he should remain in hiding.
If he did, he would be safe. And as before, nothing might happen…
“No.”
Cassian’s gaze changed.
“I have to tell my brother.”
Only Kailos could stop what was happening.
Seeing Cassian’s resolve, Blue’s eyes curved with satisfaction.
[Follow me.]
Without hesitation, Cassian got up from the corner.
Even though he had resolved to go to his brother, he had no idea how to proceed.
He could not use words or a carriage. If he left now, the Empress would surely learn of it.
Although Blue knew where his brother was, the path was unclear.
No matter how fast he moved, he was still just a boy. If the guards followed, they would catch him quickly.
Then Blue’s body grew.
The small, cute Blue transformed into a sharp, threatening figure. Cassian could not take his eyes off the change.
“Can you really change your size however you want?”
Blue turned his body in response.
[I grow because the one I chose has grown.]
Cassian tilted his head, confused. Blue did not explain further, only urging him to climb on.
So Cassian climbed onto Blue without realizing that the one Blue chose would become the next great Emperor.
As Blue rose with his legs bent, Cassian’s face flushed with excitement.
Unlike riding a horse, he felt both fear and a thrilling pounding in his chest.
[Hold on tight. If not, you will fall.]
Blue warned and immediately set off without giving Cassian time to prepare.
Soon, the large cat and the boy left the imperial city.
“Is this really the right way?”
Cassian held Blue’s neck tightly, looking around.
They ran along a dark forest path for a long time. Even as the sun rose, the trees were so numerous and the leaves so large that no light entered.
[Are you bored seeing the same things over and over after being excited at first?]
Cassian chuckled. Everything had been frightening in the castle, but out in the world, there was so much to be amazed at.
While the child laughed embarrassedly, Blue stopped.
[Here.]
Cassian looked up at the tall building before him.
And at that moment, the person he most wanted to see was coming out of it.
“Brother!”
Cassian jumped off Blue and ran to him, embracing him.
Not to Prince Kailos, but to Leslun.
