At Cal’s confident voice, another man from inside stepped out. He was the one who had given information about who Leslun was the other day.

“Seriously, this is no joke.”

“Don’t you think… there’s a kind of nice scent about him?”

They acted as though startled at the sight of Leslun’s flushed face. At that, Cal shrugged his shoulders and lifted the chin of the staggering Leslun.

“I know kids like this very well. Tonight is going to be interesting.”

Cal did not possess the exceptional intellect of his older brother, but he had an unusual instinct. That was why Brian, though always displeased with him, still allowed his younger brother into the laboratory.

When Cal had first seen Leslun, he had felt a stimulation he could not define. The indifferent gaze, the quiet expression, the deliberate distance in his attitude—all had captured his eyes.

There was not a trace of sensual provocation in him, and yet from his silent and tranquil demeanor, a strangely itching sensation rose up in Cal.

“Let… me go.”

Leslun tried to shake off his hand, but his body would not obey.

“Struggle all you want, it only works against you.”

It did not matter even if he did not obediently spread his legs. He could make him do it.

How much he had endured since the completion ceremony so that the Crown Prince would let down his guard.

Had anything happened to the Crown Prince that day, the same trick would never have worked again. The vigilance would have been strengthened, inevitably.

That was why now was the perfect chance.

“So then…”

Just as Cal was about to grab Leslun, someone else seized Leslun’s wrist first and pulled him toward himself.

“Where did you learn the vile habit of laying hands on what belongs to another?”

At the icy voice, everyone in the room froze.

It was Kailos.

At the Crown Prince’s appearance, Cal was the first to regain his senses and quickly dropped to his knees. Then another man, coming to his senses next, hastily babbled an excuse.

“You misunderstand. He was the one who came into our room first. Look.”

The man flung the door wide to show the inside. Cal, belatedly coming to, nodded his head. He was tense, wondering if the Crown Prince had heard that he had used a drug, but there was nothing to do but brazen it out, so he pressed his lips shut.

“I will verify the details separately.”

Kailos stared at them with a cold face, then turned away.

Cal bit his lip, his heart pounding.

“What if he realizes?”

“What else…”

Despite his friend’s unease, Cal forced a smile.

“I can just tell my brother.”

Since his brother was close to the Empress, something of this scale could certainly be covered up.

Leslun, following after the Crown Prince, continued to stumble with every step. Cal stood rooted to the spot, unable to move, until the figures of the two disappeared from sight.

“I cannot take my eyes off you even for a moment.”

Kailos let out a heavy sigh.

“No sooner do I think you are unhurt and well than someone is already targeting you. Must I keep you by my side at all times from now on?”

As he turned with the half-joking remark, Leslun collapsed forward.

“…Leslun?”

The inside of the wrist he had been holding had felt warm, and now the body that fell into his arms was burning like fire. Kailos quickly grabbed Leslun’s shoulder.

His breathing came in faint tremors, damp and heavy breaths brushing against the nape of Kailos’s neck.

“What in the world happened?”

At Kailos’s stiffened voice, Leslun weakly lifted his head.

His eyes were unfocused. His face was flushed red, and his lips parted slightly.

“Your Highness…”

It was a low voice, as though clinging to that single name.

Kailos placed his hand against Leslun’s forehead. Heat surged beneath the skin.

“…Who would do such a thing.”

It seemed there was no longer any room for patience where his aide was concerned.

***

“Haa…”

Leslun’s breaths came hot. His cheeks were red, and tears welled at the corners of his eyes.

The moment he was laid on the bed, Leslun curled up, clutching himself. Watching that, Kailos sighed.

“I sent Robin to find out what happened, so endure just a little longer…”

It felt like speaking to himself. Kailos leaned back.

Tilting his head against the sofa, he gathered his thoughts once more, then looked back at Leslun.

“Tell me—what did you put in your mouth?”
