He had seen it served several times at the Crown Prince’s table before, so it was not strange for Kailos to offer it.

Even so, something in Leslun’s chest felt strangely ticklish.

“Thank you.”

Leslun expressed his thanks and picked up his fork.

Just before he was about to take a bite of the cake, Kailos added as if he had suddenly remembered something.

“It tastes good outside too, but it can’t compare to eating it here.”

“……”

“It doesn’t even compare to eating with that prince. That’s what I mean.”

The intention behind his words was clear.

Leslun carefully cut a piece with his fork, put it in his mouth, and his eyes narrowed slightly at the sweetness that spread across his tongue.

“How does it taste?”

Kailos asked.

“It is delicious. Far better than what I had outside.”

The moment he finished speaking, Kailos’s expression quickly softened.

A smile appeared on his lips, and his shoulders seemed to relax.

Leslun did not miss that moment.

“I really have been quite thoughtless until now. Growing up so privileged… I never considered things like this.”

Kailos said with a slight smile.

“I must have overlooked the fact that you grew up with very little.”

Leslun set down his fork for a moment and looked at him.

He was not particularly ashamed of his poverty.

He was simply more curious as to why Kailos was speaking so bluntly about it.

“I mean don’t be moved just by this much. Since you said this tastes far better than what you ate with that prince, I’m not going to feed you only this.”

Leslun turned to Robin again, his gaze pleading for some kind of explanation as to what was going on.

This time too, Robin seemed unconcerned.

All Kailos had done was find out that Leslun had eaten cake with Prince Tarensiu.

What more was there to explain?

“I’ll let you taste all kinds of desserts.”

Leslun unconsciously touched his left hand.

Once again, the Crown Prince was trying to give him something freely, without asking for anything in return.

Knowing that this kindness was not something to take for granted, his heart warmed.

Yet at the same time, Leslun shook his head slightly.

“I’m fine.”

“There’s no need to refuse. I’m just sharing a bit of what’s mine.”

It did not take long for the feeling of being touched to turn into a burden.

***

He had eaten so many desserts that he could not even have dinner.

Because of that, it still felt as if his mouth were filled with sweetness.

Leslun unconsciously brushed his lips before straightening his posture at the sound of a door opening.

“Come in.”

Kailos opened the door himself.

He had not sent a servant, but had come out personally to wait for him.

What that meant was simple—where Leslun was about to enter was no ordinary place.

Kailos stepped aside and let him in.

Leslun entered and looked up at the bookshelves, letting out a breath of admiration.

“It’s not like this is your first time here. Why are you amazed again?”

“It’s just as astonishing the second time.”

It was a library only royalty were allowed to enter.

Though it was not as large as the library at the Academy, its air of sophistication was something no other place could imitate.

That atmosphere could only be felt in this library.

“You can’t be satisfied with just one visit.”

Standing in the center of the library, Kailos spoke casually, but his voice echoed against the library walls and came back to Leslun’s ears.

Leslun stopped and looked at the shelves.

The Crown Prince’s words should have sounded like a passing joke, but for some reason they carried sincerity.

Slowly, Leslun turned his head.

Kailos was not looking at him.

Instead, he had pulled out an eye-catching book and was flipping it open.

He was not looking into it deeply, but the slight tension in his shoulders made it look as if he were.

Leslun’s eyes trembled.

The Crown Prince he knew was a man who seduced lightly, brushed it off as nothing, and ended things with one night of heat.

Yet the man standing before him now was carefully choosing his words, not expecting an answer, and still hoping for something.

“The more I want to keep something for a long time, the less easily I begin it.”

Kailos met Leslun’s eyes as he spoke, clearly conveying his resolve.

It was a simple line, but in that moment, the line between them blurred once again.

“Just add a single line to the report you wrote and submit it.”
