Kailos returned to his usual self, as if he had never been so serious.

At the same time, he told Leslun why he had been given access to the library.

The report Leslun had written until dawn overlapped with much of what Robin had already submitted.

Normally, that should have been discarded, but Kailos had stopped that from happening.

Instead, he instructed Leslun to add to it and submit it, and brought him to the library.

“I don’t need to tell you where each book is, do I?”

“That’s correct.”

“Then do well.”

Kailos sat sideways on the long bench across from the desk and turned his gaze away without another word.

Leslun let out a quiet sigh in his mind.

The conversation he had shared with the Crown Prince seemed insignificant, yet it lingered with him.

When Kailos had ordered him to rest before the Academy opened, Leslun had thought he would never be able to rest properly because the man weighed so heavily on his mind.

This was, after all, a man who appeared soundlessly wherever Leslun was, and the room he had lent him was just one floor below the Crown Prince’s own quarters.

And yet, like a lie, the Crown Prince had not appeared.

Servants came and went as they pleased to wait on Leslun, but Kailos himself never came.

Even if he had been excluded from his duties as an aide for now, Leslun could not avoid them forever, eventually he would have to resume them.

He would still see Kailos at meetings or whenever the Crown Prince asked about supplies or documents.

Each time they met, Kailos treated him casually, without any pressure.

That was why Leslun had let his guard down without realizing it.

He felt as though he had been caught off guard in an unexpected situation.

Kailos seemed lost in thought and gave little reaction.

Leslun carefully took his seat and stacked several books he had taken from the shelves on the desk.

Then he placed his own report beside them.

As he looked at the chronology displayed on top, a peculiar light passed through Leslun’s eyes.

He read diligently while letting his pen move across the report with one hand.

Neat handwriting, refined content, information layered and cross-referenced multiple times, simply following it with his eyes deepened his thoughts.

As he read the sentences filled with tangled genealogies and city names, time slipped by quietly.

It was when the light flickered slightly.

Strength left his fingertips.

Leslun tried to lift his heavy eyelids, but fatigue had already pulled him too far down.

Thunk.

At the unfamiliar sound, Kailos lifted his head.

When he looked over at Leslun, the man who had been working so hard just moments ago was now dozing off.

His head was nodding so low it looked like he might bump it against the desk at any moment.

“Leslun… You should just go back to your room…”

Kailos stopped mid-sentence, startled.

Leslun’s head had just drooped so sharply that he really might have hit his forehead against the desk.

Fortunately, it had not happened—but it was still dangerously close.

Kailos rose quietly from his seat.

He walked over slowly and stood beside Leslun, looking down at him for a moment.

“No wonder. You couldn’t have helped being tired when you haven’t rested properly.”

He sighed, then gently took the pen from Leslun’s hand and set it down lightly on the report, just in case it might spill ink if it fell.

“Go to your room and sleep. Otherwise, I will…”

Kailos gave a very stern warning.

For all that, his voice was low and mellow.

Perhaps that was why Leslun sank even deeper into sleep, his body now leaning to the side completely.

Kailos reached out and supported Leslun’s head.

Then he went so far as to sit down beside him and turn him so that his head rested on his own shoulder.

Feeling the weight of Leslun’s head pressing into his shoulder, Kailos let out a long breath.

“I fed you desserts you’ve never eaten in your life, and now you dare to ask for my shoulder too?”

Had there ever been such a shameless aide?

The warmth of his body seeped through Kailos’s collar.

Deep, even breathing sank down his shoulder.

Kailos turned his gaze forward.

It was the first time the weight on his shoulder had felt both so light and so heavy.

“Don’t just sleep. Tell me.”

His voice came out tight.

“What are you thinking, dismissing that day as nothing but an accident?”

Kailos wanted to grab this frustrating man and shout at him to stop saying things he did not mean.

But would Leslun change even if he did?

‘Of course not.’

As long as he did not run away again, that would already be fortunate.

Even with the short time they had spent together, Kailos knew Leslun would never bend.

He suppressed the boiling inside of him with effort.

He would have to craft the perfect trap for Leslun and lure him into it.

“Come over while I’m still being good to you.”

If he doesn’t bend, he might just break him.
