The Villain’s Aide Has Run Away - Chapter 83.2
Even so, Leslun had believed that, unexpected as these developments were, things were flowing smoothly. The fact that it was the sacred beast that shook that belief left him even more unsettled.
With a weary heart, Leslun entered the conference room.
The moment Kailos saw him, he rose from his seat.
In an instant, he was standing in front of Leslun, his expression hard.
“Who is it?”
His voice was firm. At first, Leslun did not understand what was happening and glanced at Robin for an explanation.
Robin closed his eyes and shook his head. It seemed to mean there was nothing he could do either.
“Who upset you?”
Leslun blinked.
“The one who upset me?”
“Yes. Whether it was a person or a beast… even if it was just an ant passing by, tell me everything. How dare they cast a shadow over my sunlight.”
Kailos’s words left Leslun bewildered.
“How did you know?”
“I can tell just by looking at your face.”
“You can?”
“Yes. If you are hurt, I can always tell.”
Though his tone brimmed with confidence, it did not resonate with Leslun in this moment.
“Whether your body hurts or your heart hurts, I can tell.”
“Oh…”
Leslun awkwardly took a step back.
If he had to name one thing, it would be Blue. But if he said Blue was the reason, he would have to explain far too much. And this was neither the place nor the time for that conversation.
Sensing the situation, Robin quietly withdrew, as though realizing this was not something he should interfere in.
“Call me when you are finished.”
Leslun reached out a hand as if asking for help. His heart was still unsettled, and being alone with Kailos here was not going to make things any better.
But it was Kailos, not Robin, who took his hand.
“You still have not told me who it was.”
“…”
“I know you are the type who cannot lie.”
“No. I am actually good at lying.”
“Oh, really? Then go ahead and lie to me.”
Already distressed, Leslun could tell Kailos had no intention of letting him go.
“Your Highness.”
The words slipped from Leslun’s lips, and Kailos’s expression brightened.
“Thinking of me is not a bad answer.”
Leslun added quietly.
“I was wondering if maybe Your Highness only likes me because of Blue.”
Kailos’s expression stiffened. It looked as if Leslun had struck a nerve.
Leslun could not bear to look at him and averted his gaze.
This time, he found himself wishing Kailos would lie.
“If that were true, I think I would be upset… that was the thought I had.”
As Kailos had ordered, Leslun added a falsehood to hide his true feelings.
How could he say that this was not just a thought, but reality? Most of what he said had been sincere, with only the slightest lie mixed in.
Even so, Kailos seemed unwilling to let it go. At some point, he had interlaced their fingers together. Leslun caught his breath.
He had not wanted to say any of this. It felt like he had caused unnecessary trouble, yet at the same time, there was a strange sense of relief.
“No.”
“…What?”
Kailos took Leslun’s other hand as well, intertwining their fingers tightly. Startled at suddenly having both hands captured, Leslun froze.
“It is not like that. No. It is true, but it is not.”
Kailos’s words tumbled out like a clumsy excuse, leaving Leslun just as flustered.
“Yes, this happened because of Blue. But it is not as though I had no feelings for you from the start.”
He spoke quickly, almost urgently.
“You know what I must look like to you. I know that. But just this once, I am asking you to trust me completely. I… have always…”
Kailos’s expression was complicated.
“Thought well of you.”
The words that came out sounded unexpectedly shy, which only confused Leslun even more.
“All right, I will not just ask you to believe me.”
Kailos’s grip on his hands tightened.
“I will show you. So put those thoughts on hold.”
Leslun was swayed by the intensity of his will and nodded before he even realized it.
This was not what he had meant to do.
Only last night he had been so upset, unable to settle his emotions, and now that time felt as though it had been meaningless.
“I will show you this first.”
Kailos tugged Leslun along. Leslun, flustered, had no choice but to follow.
They passed through the corridor and stopped before the window at the end of the hall.
There, bathed in the streaming sunlight, Kailos whispered to him.
“How I see you.”
